We both have PayPal. With modern face recognition and Siri I can just tell the phone to send the money. I don’t have/want/need/desire to know what my wife has in her account. She likewise has never asked me either. If she asked I would have no issues showing her and likewise she would show me without issue.

It’s called trust. It works very well in our relationship.
No need for separate accounts then!
There is nothing wrong with having separate accounts.

I know there's nothing wrong. I just don't see why people must go to the extra effort to keep things separate.

Not for my generation. Everyone has a bank account, it is pretty much a requirement of modern life, so unless you were born married there was a time you had separate accounts and would need to go the extra mile to migrate into using a joint account exclusively.

It wasn't extra effort.

But I reckon you weren't scammed, you just didn't pay attention when you were clicking things
I like Amazon prime when it is free, as soon as they tell me I have to pay (I know, what sort of crazy idea is that!) I cancel it.

Amazon Prime Video and makes it worth paying for in my opinion. I'm not fussed on the delivery benefits.

Amazon Music is good too but I wouldn't pay for it on its own.

Mrs BC and I have been together over 30 years. We’d never consider a joint account. Each to their own.

We have a joint account that we both pay a set amount into each month, easy and it works really well for us.

Day 3194757302 of using Amazon daily without Prime and not accidentally signing up.

Don’t mind me.

I’ve been in IT tech roles for nearly 15 years and the fkers still caught me out once.

They’ve reversed all the UI/UX design principles to trick you into it. Unless you read the prompts properly at each step, you basically have to decline it multiple times to place an order.

Sneaky bds.
Plot twist, my 5 year old got into The Grand Tour (my fault), so I had to renew it laugh

Of course he did. This is PH, everyone has a magic money tree, we rant about this sort of thing on principal then go buy it anyway when one of our kids does a minor pout.

My wife and I have had separate accounts our whole married life (44 years). These days, with banking apps and immediate access to the balance and transactions I imagine running a joint account would be much easier than when we first got married, but we're used to how we do it. Overall, I still think it's easier to have separate accounts.

It doesn't take any extra work for us, we both get paid into our personal accounts, every month the bank transfer a set amount into our joint account which we use for house stuff. This is across 3 different banks and works really well.

I suspect these days it makes precious little difference how "you" do it - it comes down to personal preference and habit. Functionally, we operate the same way you do, except we divide up the bills rather than the money (e.g. I run the cars, she pays for the groceries & so on.)

Agreed, it doesn't really cause any extra effort whichever way you do it to be honest.

Noticed the other day a pop up on my Amazon app saying my membership was soon ending but my payment method had expired. This thread made me go and have a nosey to see when it expired. Noticed that where it initially said it may not be able to auto renew, it then said they may try another card. Not on my watch.

Couldn’t see anywhere to turn off auto renew and the membership doesn’t actually expire for another few weeks so I have set a reminder for the day before (out of principle more than anything).

What I hadn’t realised was that the renewal would now be £95 a year! Blimey. The £79 they took from me last year was annoying enough as I’d had student membership for a few years previously and hadn’t realised it had auto renewed at £79 until a while after.

Prime was handy in lockdown for the delivery and recently it’s been handy for quick delivery of small items for home improvements even if you do pay more than the same item available locally for the convenience. There’s not a lot that interests me on Prime Video other than Grand Tour and Clarkson's Farm so I’ll just do a trial or pay a month when there’s a season out.
