25 minutes of hold music hell - and one crappy retention offer later and I've cancelled.
Who are you replacing them with? Maybe the cancel notification will kick them into action.
That's what I'm hoping. I don't want to have to switch supplier but when they're taking the piss this blatantly what else can you do?

frown How annoying. Can you cancel? Cool off period?
I suspect that cancelling a new contract to renegotiate the cost is a step too far. I should have been firmer in the first place but I hadn't really got the energy for the whole cancellation dance this time.

They told me that getting rid of Anytime calls would cost more since the recent calls would have totalled £17 compared to the £8 or so for Anytime. I wasn't aware we were using the landline, but that's what they said. Maybe it was all on hold to VM...

Just waiting for next time...

Well we've finally called time on Virgin after having been with them for over ten years - disconnected today and have gone with NowTV for the next 12 months on a far more palatable deal. Will see if Virgin fancy being a little more hospitable in a year I guess smile

I keep getting that "you're on the best deal at the moment" thing but they're comparing the full price with some vague reduction.

Just off the phone with Virgin, have been paying £58 a month for past 4 months for BB/TV/Phone due to waiting for different discounts to expire, best deal they could offer me as a long standing (20 odd years) customer is a new contract at £43.50 a month with a one off £30 discount applied to the second month bill effectively making my 12 month contract £41 a month. I told them that wasn't good enough as new customers can get a slightly better package for £29 a month so to go ahead and cancel my contract. I now have 30 days for something to happen, they also no longer do a discount for paying upfront for the phone line either.
Time will tell I guess
Didn't hear anything from Virgin so gave them a call earlier today to see if they had a better offer for me,best they could come up with was £53 if I lose the landline, I asked what happened to the £43 a month offer to be told.."that offer only lasted 7 days from when it was placed".
I asked the person on the phone to check how long before I can come back as a new customer to get a much better deal and they came back with 30 days, I said I will do that then as it's daft that a new customer gets a better offer than a long standing loyal customer.Their next comment was...."Oh, myscreen has updated with new offers,I can offer you to keep the same package for £43 a month with a one off credit of £30"
I have taken up a 12 month contract with a guarentee of no price rise within those 12 months at £40.50 a month (taking into account the £30 credit) I'm happy with that but my perseverance paid off as i'm sure if I hadn't kept on and told them i will go ahead with the cancellation and come back as a new customer they wouldn't have made me a better offer!

My contract ends 20th September.
Currently paying £66 for 200mb, calls and full house TV which includes BTSport.

Ill be reducing to internet only or with TV if I can get it for £30.

My brother in law cancelled with them the other day and took the first offer of 200mb for £45.

It’s the second attempt from Virgin I think where they try and offer you a better deal.

Talktall? Virgin?

You got what you pay for, just switch to zen they are number 1 for a reason and no that expensive for.somethimg that most people use everyday.

It's the fact that people shop around for the cheapest prices, this isn't a litre of 95 petrol where every supplier supplies the same stuff

As stated so many times by other people, just cancel and wait for the call-back. Don't waste your time with the other routes, just go straight to cancellations.

Very impressed with my Sky TV deal:

I've just negotiated ours back down to £53 a month from £63 a month, this is for the 200Mbit Internet, Medium TV package, phone line with unlimited weekend calls. It'll be going up to £56 on 1st Sep though.

Apparently this was the best deal he could offer, I think I'm just going to ring back and tell them to stick it.

Our last (18 month) contract we started in Dec 2017 clearly says £52.00 a month until 20th June 2019 when it becomes £60 a month yet in Oct 2018 it went to £55.50, May 2019 £60.50 and then June 2019 £63.50 with another price rise due on 1st Sep to £66.50.

Having spoken to Vodafone today who have a cracking deal, I'm ready to play the game but unless VM can give me a great deal, I'll probably bugger off to Vodafone for BB and landline.

https://www.vodafone.co.uk/broadband/deals/superfa...

Average speed
35Mbps

Line rental
£0

Upfront*
£60

Monthly
£23

But it sounds like I may not need to pay the upfront as VM kindly set me up with fibre all those years ago. I don't need 200mbps as I keep telling VM. I only stream YouTube and have no interest in Netflix etc.

Vodafone don't use Virgins cabling so I don't see how this benefits you ?
I am sure Vodafone use Open Reach's network

Im pretty sure thats delivered to your house over existing copper and its just fibre to the distribution point (FTTC)

Dont get too fixated on the word fibre as they use this to glorify their offerings. Its generally copper/ fibre to the premises or virgin with their coax cabling. Virgin are upgrading their network but dont hold your breath.

There are quite a few deals out there at the moment.. i was thinking of switching from virgin to the Now TV one at 25 a month for the first year

If you dont need mega download speed then maybe have a look at this thread

Called Virgin back this afternoon and managed to get through straight away and get a slightly better deal than offered before. Why couldn't they have done that last time and saved all the hassle? confusedhehe

I suppose the customers who accept the earlier offers mean they can afford to make lower offers to those who don't.

The deals offered vary from day to day.
Each agent working on retention will be both targeted to achieve X amount and incentive to get more than X
If you think of it more as a sales room than a customer assistant centre that's probably easier.
Sometimes you can get an agent who will give more to retain you than someone else.
