If memory serves they hiked a lot of prices when vat went to 20%?

Wonder if we get a drop they will follow suit.

Who am I kidding.

I bought my Apple Watch 4 in the USA. To be fair the difference is largely the VAT.
I got one there at Christmas, it was about £270 from memory. With it being a US one it did the ECG before the UK ones were enabled.

Which party is advocating reducing the VAT rate?

None I can think of.

The advertised US price won't include any sales tax.

Their consumer protection is also no where near as good as ours.

The only way to make decent savings on Apple stuff when visiting the US is to buy from somewhere like Best Buy when they are running a sale (they frequently discount Apple gear).

I use wired headphones and just use the adapter that comes with the phone, works ok.

I don’t think there will be a massive set forward with the new line up.
The wired headphone dongle actually has better quality DACs inside it than the previous few iPhones. (forget the article I read that tested them)

I upgraded from a 6S Plus to XS, love the screen, Face ID is brilliant (especially when apps use it), and sound quality through the dongle is OK.

It'll never be brilliant quality, for that you need an early gen iPod 160GB before they cheaped out on the DACs and analog circuitry, but though my ancient Sennheisers its good enough.

I used to get a new iPhone every 2 years but have stuck with my iPhone 7 Plus since it was released and will be doing the same again this year.

Strangely, this is the first iPhone I've owned that hasn't started to play up and run like a dog after 23 months...

I’ve been checking my post but nothing yet. Surely they wouldn’t hold the event without me? wink

Bit of a phrase though, by invitation only. As if anyone could walk in anyway.

Not sure I could sit through one without wanting to scream, just want the gist of the stuff. The serious press must hate it (but love the goody bags). Journo's are always first in for the loot.

My Apple event.
Written on the back of a fag packet, handed out the deliveries door. You got ten minutes to pass it around then we let the dogs loose.

It’s “by innovation only” smile

I take your point about journalists though; I always find the whooping and cheering for the most mundane feature cringeworthy, but I still watch them even though it has been years since I’ve been “excited” by a new product.

DOH!

I have shamed myself.

I tend to catch up on the ATV app a few minutes after it finishes and fast forward the smug bits or have Mac Rumors running for the updates.

And women, not heaping all the blame on the male part of the audience.

I was wondering if anyone could offer a bit of advice, My current Iphone 7 is due for renewal on the 7th Sept, i have seen in the paper that their is an apple event planned for 10th Sept where they are highly likely to announce the new Iphone.

I'm not interested in the new Iphone due to the price tag that comes with it. What i am interested in is the Iphone XR.
My question is, I've been looking online for deals, such as Uswitch etc, comparing this and that, but from peoples experiences, what are the chances of better deals coming out when Sept 10th has passed?, as soon as the new iphone details are released do prices come down for other models etc.

Cheers all

I think lots of oldies are asking for a decent phone in a small form factor (iPhone SE2 rumours have been around for a while), but the people who buy new phones mostly want them to use as their main screen to watch films, etc. so phone companies aren't going to be making a small phone any time soon frown
My iPhone 8 is about as big as I want to go, when it breaks and I get a new phone I'm not sure where I can get a modern phone that's a similar size.
Sony used to do small phones but even their Xperia XZ2 Compact phone is 135mm tall (iPhone 8 is 138mm).

This is exactly why I got the iphone XS - I loved the shape and size of the 6/7 and the X is near enough identical with a much bigger screen.
Cannot stand the plus sizes. so awkward to hold and handle

You'll more than likely find a better deal once the new hardware is announced.

Apple will do one of two things:

- Retire the old XR and replace it with a new one
- Introduce a new XR, but will keep the old XR on as a lower cost model

Either way, third party resellers like Carphone Warehouse and networks will want to move the old stock on so better offers will come out, or you'll be able to negotiate more of a discount by citing it's old stock.

That's good news and I'm glad I was wrong a few posts up saying we won't ever see an iPhone as small as the 8 again!
(assuming the rumour is true)
