Hrmm fair enough, my old mate 9 had EMUI updates not tied to android versions though, maybe it's changed now?

On a plus note, with the p30 pro NE being effectively a year younger than the p30 pro, maybe it'll get Android 12 too smile as the original p30 pro is getting 11

I think this will be my last Huawei unless the new US administration lifts the ban on Huawei using Google software. I've enjoyed my 10, 20 and 30. Good phones pity about America spoiling it. frown

Maaaaan, this st is doing my head in, old man and new tech, fekkit.

I succeeded to transfer the data & apps from my old Samsung to the 30 with PhoneClone, hooray.

Funny that my photos and sounds were not copied fully, but managed that manually with USB connection.

But I struggle to install a mp3 file as ringtone, when I go to "custom ringtone" is lists "all sounds on device"

in a 3 feet long list, but my mp3 file is not included.

It IS on the 30, in various folders, but cannot be selected as ringtone, it seems.

And the "all sounds on device" folder does not exist when I look for it on pc with USB connection.

AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH go to sleep now,

and maybe find someone at the workplace who actually knows what this shiiite is about.

Indeed, had a similar issue with a tablet I was considering for my daughter, the Huawei one ticked a lot of boxes but I can't be bothered farting around with it to get Play services up and running.

A friend mentioned he needs a new phone the other night (he's on a P20 IIRC) and I'm so out of touch that I had no idea what to recommend other than a P30 Pro, he's not a "latest flagship" kind of guy but I really wasn't sure where to aim him. The Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite maybe?

What's next for us? Hope Biden sorts it out? I quite fancied a Huawei Mate next (although I don't like the iPod design on the 40). That said my P30 Pro isn't exactly leaving me wanting for anything...

Plenty of time for me to decide, I've got 20 months to go on my contract, I've just treated myself to a new tablet, my old Huawei mediapad 8 was getting 2 slow for me, so I wiped it and gave it to the wife to potter about on the internet.

Looks like EMUI11 is due any time in the UK - Anyone running it yet?

I am looking to upgrade from my P20 pro. Ideally would get P40 pro but for me lack of google services is a deal breaker. So am now looking at either a S20 plus or P30 pro. Did anyone here upgrade from P20 pro to P30 pro? if so any thoughts on the camera? i am not too bothered with anything else on the camera as they all are good enough for day to day tasks.

Wife has P20 Pro, I have P30 Pro. Cameras similar in good lighting conditions, however the P30 Pro wipes the floor in low light.

Does anyone know whether Google Play services are likely to stage a come back on the newer phones in the future?

My P30 Pro is probably the best phone I've ever had, (well either the P30 Pro or my Windows Lumia 920), when it comes to upgrade time which is still a while off, I'd love to get one of the higher end Huawei's again.

I think it will be a long time if it ever happens. Keep an eye on Honor brand of phone. Honor was part of Huawei and was sold off to "independent third parties" by Huawei and as such honor phones should be able to have google services. Nothing official about their latest phone release in europe yet.

I did - The camera was the draw for me and it's brilliant. One of the best around and still is.

The P40 and P50 pro phones are the ones I really want, but the lack of Google makes it a no-no. Next year, I'll be forced down the alternative route

As for where I saw the article - I can't remember, it was a google provided story. I'll try to find the article.

All the releases I've read have said first quarter of 2021.

In what way ? Battery life ? App loading ? screen transition? Gaming ? Or just everything ?

I've noted that whenever I've had a phone updated, the update is usually inferior in some way (granted Android may be improved) but it's almost like they put a great deal of effort in optimising for the version the phone is released with and going 'meh that'll do' on any updates.

Seen on

Motorola
Sony
Huawei

Screen unlocking is a lot slower, apps open slower, buzz notifications have changed (Skype, default and Messenger notifications used to be slightly different which was helpful, but they're now all the same) - App performance doesn't seem affected nor is in game performance.

I can't tell battery life yet because I only did the update yesterday but so far it seems to be no different

I can unlock the phone with my thumb and it "slowly 'drifts' in to view" - My partner has a P30 Pro NE and hers is instant - Performance of both used to be identical.

I'm loathe to do a hard reset to see if that resolves anything at this stage though - The last update was fine I might add and didn't make such a big impact
