Finally got EMUI12, having a tinker to see what it's like.
I'm not a huge fan of the pull down changes - wish there was a timed dark mode though
Pull down changes are copying google with android 12, just remember left side = notification, right side = system (rip off of Apple's, which is hilarious as it took Apple eon's to come up with anything to match Androids notification/quick settings and now Android is copying it)

re timed dark mode, could probably do it in Tasker, but P30 Pro is AMOLED so it makes sense to keep it dark permanent, will give you more battery life.

That's not one of my favourite points, I keep pulling down to read the notifications and getting the settings!

I'm the other way, keep pulling notifications when I want settings.
I use double tap on screen to bring notifications down (launcher feature) way more convenient than trying to reach the top of the screen.

Holy thread resurrection!

I'm still on the p30 but I'm curious as to whether anyone has gone to the pixel 7 pro and what your opinion of it it?

I went from a mate 20 pro to the P7 pro at launch. The camera is the most significant upgrade for me and in that respect has been worth it. The rest of the experience, if I'm being honest, is much the same, battery life is so so and I've not found getting the latest version of android that revolutionary either. I do find the p7 pro a bit bulky too - I would have been perhaps better served with the standard P7 in hindsight.

Ultimately if you use your camera a lot I would go for it (I have a 9 month old and a 3 year old so I certainly do), but otherwise I probably wouldn't bother.

I did similar, but didn't get on with the P7 Pro at all. While the camera was amazing, I found the phone irritatingly buggy and the additional bulk was a pain day-to-day. This sent me on a quest for phones that have a good camera in a smaller package - I tried a Sony Experia 5 III for a bit which I also didn't get on with. Phone was nice, and the camera was good outdoors but really unreliable and overly-fiddly for indoor pics. I also have young kids and the unreliability of snaps from the Sony was ultimately unforgivable.

I now have a Samsung S23 (the small one) and it's much better, having got used to the Samsung-ness of the UI, and importantly takes good 'on-the-fly' photos without being the size of a barn door. Still, if I hadn't smashed my P30 I'd still happily have it hehe . My OH has my old P20 Pro which is still going strong, although slowing down a bit these days.

I went from a P30 to S23 Ultra entirely because of the camera. I couldn't believe how bad the P30 camera was. It was the only reason I bought it and it was a total waste of money.

For any other reason there would be no reason to upgrade and I'd rather not care about pics as otherwise the P30 is still a better experience. It's far more compact and ergonomic and battery life is around the same and would've been a bit better when new.

The S23 went back as, though it was great, it wasn't greater enough for the large expense.

I'll bet Android phone manufacturers curse that they're saddled with a OS which means all phones are basically the same, apart from whatever bell and whistle they can glue on top.

Interesting, I thought the P30 pro camera was fantastic. I 'upgraded' to a Galaxy Fold but the camera really is terrible on it. I miss the P30 massively for its camera. I wonder if yours was faulty in some way?

I keep being tempted by the S23 ultra, purely for the camera but think I'd miss the big screen of the Fold

And that's the thing. The camera is just so good, the next phone has to, at the very least, match it and that's why it's taken me so long to not upgrade...

It could have been. A large percentage of the photos were unusable. Most of the others were totally underwhelming.

It literally never took a panoramic shot that wasn't mushy, unfocused junk.

The previous phone was a LG G4. I happily printed off many of its photos which I still admire today. The idea of preserving, let alone printing, a P30 photo is laughable.

Every time I pressed the shutter the chance of me shouting 'what a piece of st' at it were extremely high.

I went from a P30 Pro to a Pixel 6 Pro, the Pixel camera is head and shoulders above the P30 Pro and TBH shows that the P30 pro camera whilst good, wasn't outstanding, in my view, the wife has recently got an S23 Ultra, the camera on that is awesome, not a huge leap over the 6 Pro, no where near the leap from a P30 Pro to a P6 Pro, but still noticeably better.

I'm still here with a P30 Pro and it's perfectly OK for most day to day tasks but the "camera was fantastic" is the sticking point for me - it really was when I first got it on release day, great camera and the supporting software running it was great too. The AI worked, the colours were realistic, the exposure spot on and I was really happy with it.

Something happened along the way and I strongly suspect it's software-related as the images it takes now just aren't on a par with those it used to, especially low-light indoors stuff where it "yellows" everything. My wife has the revised "new edition" of the P30 Pro they brought out later and hers is the same as mine in side by side comparisons so it's not just my hardware or my own settings, it seems to be a fundamental software flaw somewhere.

I'm looking at the S23 Ultra but the deals EE are offering are mental money so I'm trying to make buying direct from Samsung work and waiting to see if they come up with any better deals - they're offering £300 trade in on the 512GB P30 Pro, £300 in Adidas vouchers and I can get some cashback through Quidco but that's on a full price phone and the 512GB one is a bit pricey.

I'm in no rush, I wouldn't even be looking to move if the P30 camera hadn't gone backwards.

My missus has my old P30 pro, I replaced it with an Oppo Reno8 pro, the camera is very good. Plus it has 256gb of storage and expandable RAM up to 16gb so it's very fast with several apps running at once.

Has anyone replaced the battery in their p30 pro? Noticing mine is starting to struggle for a day now. Have read of bootloop issues with new battery, so not sure it's something I want to try myself.

My wife doesn't notice the battery as she keeps it on a wireless trickle charger. I was looking at a P60 Pro yesterday, a very nice looking phone, pity there's no Google installed.

My battery life isn't bad given my P30 Pro is four years old in February.

The USB port is getting more and more sensitive though - I can't move the phone whilst it's charging otherwise it stops.

Top priority for me on a new phone is camera quality.

I think my old P30 USB port is still intact due to the fact it's charged wirelessly.
