That shot of the mountain at 1:20ish is great!
Check out dronefilmguide on YouTube, a spy with my little eye.

Great footage order66
He also provides some great tips including using AE lock

How many of you have bought one of these or similar for your first dip in the water at UAV Drone tech? I'm interested in having a go with one (I work in aviation so know the Drone code and where you can/cannot fly) but I dont really want to go and throw £400 at something which may or may not appeal to me long term.

Is it worth buying something cheap or not?

Thanks, athough its a complete cheat - the same shot has been done lots of times by others (including dronefilmguide as mentioned here) and up that part of the world you could point one of these anywhere and you'll end up with great footage, no pilot skill required. I was a little disappointed in that shot as the gimbal stops abruptly and the exposure could be a lot better, but given its a little over a hours drive away I'll try it again multiple times....was hoping for a bit more snowfall to break up the brown tones.

Like you I work in aviation, and got the mini as my first introduction, I know it’s not something I will use all the time (same with the GoPro I got 2 years ago) however it’s size and price means it’s something I was happy to give it a go and can easily be kept in the car or thrown in a bag. I am amazed how simple it is to fly and once you get a bit of height everything just looks amazing.

Its my first drone beyond something the kids scare the dog with. It's an utterly brilliant bit of kit and is now permanently part of my photography gear. Very simple to fly and any idiot can get some seriously cool footage out of it. I can't believe for a second you'd be disappointed unless you're expecting DSLR quality footage/functions.

It fits in a coat pocket....

As much as I would like to think about upgrading to a mavic pro 2, that fact the mini is so small is a huge plus point for me.

I’d been looking at replacing my Phantom 2 with something that was more geared towards the traveller, and a Mavic Air was definitely a possibility, but the price was off-putting. The announcement of the Mini came at exactly the right time and price point, and early reviews suggested it would meet my needs nicely.

I placed my order for the combo as a Christmas present to myself, which was delivered at the beginning of December. Being really good, I wrapped it without even opening it and placed it under the Christmas tree. Now that Christmas has come and gone, I am now the proud owner of a Mini, and the few flights I have done with it so far have indeed confirmed that this little drone will suit my needs perfectly.

So DJI have effectively borked my mini with the latest update of the DJI Fly app. When opening the app I just get a white screen and no amount of uninstalling and reinstalling will make it work.

Seems it is a known issue with the latest update and Samsung phones, and they are saying they won't have a fix until the end of January at the earliest, so I have a coaster for the next month.

I had heard that DJI support was horrendously poor, but didn't expect to experience it this quicky.

They are hamstrung by the phone owners though. This isn't a DJI issue at source really.

Couldn't disagree more. It worked on 31st dec, app updates overnight and it doesn't work the next day. The phone didn't update/change in this period. This is simply poor testing.

No other apps are seeing the same issues.

As an iPhone user I also agree it’s the app manufacturers fault not the phone maker.

Did you upgrade to android 10? Seems that's the issue.

Yes. The controller fits in a pocket too (obviously not the same pocket) . And the batteries are small.

Useful information perhaps to someone here. Despite not being on the compatible list and not appearing in the Play Store I have been able to get the DJI Fly app operational and flying on my old Nokia 5 running Android 9. You need to download the .apk file, run it and cross your fingers so long as you have a 64-bit phone as far as I can make out. This has saved a lot of bother and being compelled to buy a new phone just in order to fly Mavic Mini.

You might need to shout a bit louder to reach January.

How are people finding these drones then after a few months use?
