I've got a Ring Doorbell 2. (And floodlight in in the back garden)

It works well, except for the fact that mine seems to struggle with a poor wi-fi connection which makes it sometimes slow to bring up live video on my phone.

Other than that it works exactly how it is depicted in the TV adverts.

they all do that sir

Seriously though I've installed a few and they need a Wi-Fi source practically duck taped to it. God knows why they didnt include an Ethernet connection option for those who can.

VPN wise, I've been getting increasingly unhappy with my ExpressVPN account. Nord are offering 39 months for £98, I dont know if that's good or bad, but I bought it anyway.

I'll run it alongside Express for a bit then decide which is best for me.
I wouldn't trust Nord VPN to make me a sandwich, let alone provide a secure VPN service.

Their servers (located in a 3rd party data centre) got breached in March 2018 because the data centre had an insecure remote management system.

Nords private keys were leaked meaning malicious servers could be setup using those keys.

Long story short - they clearly pump their revenue into marketing rather than locating their servers into secure data centres.

I'm amazed they didn't add that with the Pro one - that's why I bought a Doorbird D101 instead.

You'll find some poor reviews for the products and the App (much the same as Ring to be honest), which I also put down to network setup/using Wifi. It's much more expensive than Ring, I imagine the video quality is probably worse and the app less slick, but it has Wifi and Ethernet (with POE) - it's been totally reliable on Ethernet for me. We have a door strike wired to it which you can open from the app (no talking to a smartlock, which are all a bit rubbish from what I've seen) and a regular non-proprietary bell..., cloud recording is 48 euro p.a. but you can record direct to a NAS too.

My 10 year old Sammy Plasma in the bedroom packed up this morning.

I'm tempted to upgrade the main TV and shove that to the bedroom instead.

Gawd knows.

Hopoing for a further drop on Blink cameras and will take the plunge on a three camera set up
You can get a free echo dot with blink xt.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07ZSCVGXB?goal=0_ba29...
Looks a decent deal actually
Wait....What?
I though the 25% off was as good as it gets....ordered Friday BEFORE the free dot appeared. Not even arrived yet frown

Presumably I just return it and re-order?

Doubt there is any way to communicate with Amazon to say “just send me the free Dot please”.

And then rinse and repeat if things get even better next Friday.....*sigh*

I'd ping customer services - you've nothing to lose and they can be quite flexible.

Good shout....of course, they then spotted it had not shipped (for some reason I thought it had!), so just cancelled it.

Turns out the Dot offer is a Blink one, & they couldn't just send one out....but I've re-ordered now - thanks for the pointers here in this fine thread hehe

Thanks, but not that. I need geolocation. I have a pihole running on the network.
Ah yeah, fair enough then. The majority of VPN users are people that have seen the adverts and suddenly say "I need a vpn" even whilst at home etc.

Echo Show 8 is half price (£60) and in stock in Argos at the moment.

Edit: It also works as a chime and a viewing device for your ring doorbell.

People were looking for xbox deals, this one seems decent:

https://www.amazon.de/Microsoft-Xbox-One-1TB-Falle...

It's in euros as its the German Amazon, the local one for us in Austria by default.

That game is worth 50-60 euros alone and a new controller is 40-50 euros (mine is broken so was looking for them) so not bad considering.

I got one of these in the last prime day sales, use it as a bedside alarm, has skills you can use like thunderstorm sounds etc which is quite nice to fall asleep to. I also got a Neos £20 camera which works with it as well.

I am looking for a security camera, preferably a 360 rotating type for indoors.

I had two Yi Dome cams but had issues with both, latest one just went wrong recently so sending it back, anyone have any recommendations of reliable ones like this in the sales?

I'd been waiting for Black Friday sales to buy a Ring doorbell & a set of Blink cameras, but having spent a while reading the reviews I'll pass. The reviews are just full of complaints regarding connection, missed notifications, poor movement detection etc. I've just got a feeling it'll become a pain in the arse.

Still trying to decide if I actually NEED a robotic vacuum cleaner too.

The Ring doorbell si dependant on a good wifi signal. I have a mesh wifi network and it's been flawless on the notification front.

Thinking about the Blink system, don't really want another app but the deals look better on these than on Ring cameras.

I think the whole Black Friday thing has been exploited by both the retailers and the consumers to the point of being fairly pointless now.

It was originally designed to jump start Christmas spending with sale prices, but then people started putting off purchases before this to wait on Black Friday, so impacting the retailers, and from the retailers side, they're manipulating prices to make it look like the Black Friday deals are amazing.

Probably still works but very few real bargains out there.

I'm still of the view that i'll buy an item when i need it for the best price i can on that day. I could maybe have got my XBox One X for £20 cheaper if i'd waited the extra 4 months on BF, but then i wouldnt have had the use of the item for those four months.

I installed a Ring Pro Doorbell recently and it’s been fine. Normal router upstairs.
