Will for me (updated last night) - three activities I do commonly have been added, and I'd noticed the granularity and seeming accuracy of training effort/effect had reduced in recent months (pretty much always giving a 'tempo' result even if the session was far from steady state!). I've been looking for a Garmin watch for the body battery, and using with bike and hiking. I usually use my phone with OS Maps installer and a backup powerbank (and paper map) but thought if it was good enough I could use the maps on the Garmin on the fly so I'm not stopping and starting pulling my phone out. I don't have it mounted on the bars.
I understand it's hard to read the maps on the Garmin so maybe I should go for the 6s non map option? Is it worth the mapping or not?

I'd disagree with the last comment. I've a 6x solar and the maps are excellent. Far better than Google maps. They show routes that Google doesn't I understand it's hard to read the maps on the Garmin so maybe I should go for the 6s non map option? Is it worth the mapping or not?
Fair. I was thinking more the utility of a very small wrist mounted screen when trying to ride, rather than something bar mounted (I used to have an eTrex Vista which was good) - not the quality of maps themselves.
I have the Fenix 6 so no maps myself.
The Garmin speed and cadence sensors are great so there's potential to have a nice little system.

I agree the mapping is excellent, the turn by turn notifications work well but the biggest issue I have is trying to read it on the move particularly when riding in urban areas with lots of streets or if you miss a turn and have to look at where you are in relation to the missed turn. Most times I end up stopping and some times I've even had to get my phone out and use google maps. I use it for running, can plan a route, upload it, and it vibrates to tell me I'm coming up on a turning, and if it's not an obvious i can then glance at the map to confirm, of of in gone wrong use the map even to get back on track. My wife's 920(i think) can do the directions but doesn't have the maps making a it s lot harder to follow at times.
I've not tried it when cycling though.

Are you sure? My 5s has them. Can't remember what I needed to do to activate them but I do remember it had to download some big files.
On the 6, the X and Pro products have internal storage, the S and plain 6 like mine don't (well it has like 64MB). I think it does have some kind of navigation mode but not maps.Edited by RizzoTheRat on Monday 24th January 07:05
