Got drunk .......... ordered a Chromebook !!
Discussion
That's a lot of money to spend on a chromebook - at least you will be getting one of the better ones so your experience will be first class. All in all though it's just another OS and one that relies heavily on being connected online to function at its best (which as long as you are not in the middle of nowhere should be fine).
Which spec did you get?

Never used one but it's arriving later today - have I spunked a grand? It's an Asus C436 that appears (i'm sober now and checked) one of the dearest out there. Luckily Wifey didn't flinch when I told Her
Anybody regretted the switch?
We've got some Chromebooks, which we use for basic browsing. We paid £160ish for them. I am not sure I'd have spend a grand on one.Anybody regretted the switch?

Definitely over specc'd for a chromebook - you probably won't need 256GB of space unless you'll be using it offline to watch films. Nice looking machine though.https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B082Y6DYPH/ref...

Just return it. It's way overpriced for what it does. Don't even open it, just send it back.https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B082Y6DYPH/ref...

I think the difficulty is they're a bit marmite in that they're either perfect or useless depending what you want to do with them.
My mum has one and it's perfect for what she does.
The reason my mum has one is I bought one and realised very quickly it's useless for what I want to do so I gave it my mum.
I'd struggle to justify a grand on one unless you're a) so rich it doesn't matter or b) confident it'll do everything you want.
A grand buys a nice Windows laptop or a Macbook Air.

Cheers all, i've hovered over the cancel button for a while but have just cracked open a can of cider
Looked at Macbook Air but no touchscreen so binned that. I'm fed up with Windows OS and having to fix things to keep it up to speed so binned that.
We have a 27" Mac something in the kitchen which I rarely use as i'm 'lounge' man! Also have access to two ipads but don't like them.
Currently using a Lenovo 12" Yoga 3 which i've really enjoyed over the years but it's on it's last legs. Even the 3 USB ports and the card reader ports are 'worn out' and that's no fun.
I'm certainly not minted, the money is most of an unexpected tax return that came last week.
With hindsight I suppose the 434 model would be more sensible but I'd kick myself for not getting a better spec.

It's here - didn't have chance to tell driver to take it back as i was in the garden so it was just left, it's now on charge and I wont touch it till after Man Utd stuff Bournmouth 5-1
Yippppeeeeee Martial makes it 3-1 as i type.
Anyhow I already have a Google account but would it be better to create a fresh one? Would that leave all the dross and info they have on me behind?

They're perfectly fine in this day and age for most home users, and very capable. But it's best to switch to using G Suite and any other online services you need to avail of their full benefits.
Having said that, the price of that machine is very strong. Too strong perhaps. We've only run Chromebooks in the household for the last 5+ years, and the most expensive is the Pixelbook I use, and that only cost 75% of that ASUS when I bought it 2 years ago.
You won't need that 256GB of onboard storage, unless you're going to have an abhorrently huge amount of desktop Linux apps installed, and a huge amount of android apps.
Chromebooks are about online and network storage, not local storage. That 256GB of storage is very much for developers and those doing photo editing locally. Which is a very small niche amongst Chromebook users.

I have a Chromebook and use it for browsing the internet in bed including watching Youtube, etc and reading ebooks on it. It's an Asus Flip so you can fold the keyboard back on itself.
I bought it to replace an aging IPad and use it every day. It's not a PC replacement but it compliments it very nicely. It also has much better battery life than any PC.
I'd definitely get another one.
