Yes, that works. I turned on my VPN so it looked like I was in the USA then I could download the phone call recorder. I deleted it again as didn’t want to subscribe.

For those who are may be after a 12mini - Very have them cut from £699 down to £624 at the moment (in all colours) and there is an additional promotion at the moment for £50 credit back as well making them £574 - bargain!

They do have other amounts off most apple products but this is the biggest % drop I think compared to Apples current retail.

Can’t you just use the dual SIM feature?

How does the dual sim work in regards to other countries?

Uk based but in the USA fairly often, got a iPhone 6 over there which is showing it’s age. Got a X in the uk.

Would love to have the one phone for both countries - need both numbers active but the data cost to use uk phone is eye watering.

It works fine... the menu on the iPhone allows you to turn either number on or off and select which is 'primary' for data and for phone calls.

You can have both lines active 24/7 but choose (via 'primary' selection) which number to use for dialling out and/or data.

Does that make sense?

You can even allocate a particular sim to a particular number or contact.

I have a Dutch eSim as my primary and then a uk Sim as my second line most of the time but when on holiday (under normal non-Covid reality obviously) in foreign parts, I replace the uk one with a local data sim.

Mist admit dual sim feature works very well, especially as you can assign which sim you use for outgoing calls.

And you can set up your contacts so that you can call or text them by default on either.

Probably not unique to the iPhone but for me it works great!

The last time I looked to do this (in the US) it seemed such a complicated thing - in terms of how much data you might need etc and not being sure if you were being ripped off.

To be fair I didn't spend a long time thinking about it, but ultimately felt it was too much faff.

I assume the same for France.... I hope to heading there later this year for a couple of weeks and wouldn't mind a French data SIM, but will probably give up looking if it's too much effort!

In normal times Mrs BC and I travel a lot particularly to the USA. We changed to 3 Mobile for the free roaming.

I’ve just installed an Ubiqi eSim in my iPhone 12 Pro. You can buy cheap data plans for wherever you are, although some seem better value than others. I’ve just paid $18 for 10gb in Spain.

My 12 mini is getting on my nerves, the battery life is rubbish, it gets to about 40% then drops off a cliff, I’m charging it twice a day.

I can get £350 if I trade it in, I’m considering cutting my losses and getting a normal size 13.
