Yes Apple can be a PIA but then most big companies are. I hate the thought of having to stand in a queue outside one their stores to spend my hard earned.
It is so cringeworthy seeing people getting applauded when entering the shop and when leaving. I do like the look of the 12 is the leaks are accurate and might be swayed to move to an iPhone to go alongside my iPad Pro. iOS 14 is nice and I think I could get used to iOS after a few weeks. I would definitely move over if they got rid of lightning and moved to USB C like most of their other products.alorotom said:

Yep. And people like me will buy them - it's one of my little luxuries in life to have the latest iPhone. But I agree that the features on an upgrade can be a bit thin.
I have an almost unused and boxed iPhone X sitting at home that I couldn't sell when I upgraded to the 11 - a bit annoying. Maybe it will become a collectors item?
Hi NDA, how much are you looking for, for the X?I have an almost unused and boxed iPhone X sitting at home that I couldn't sell when I upgraded to the 11 - a bit annoying. Maybe it will become a collectors item?

Here’s an argument to skip the 12 and hold off until 2021 for the 13.

I usually skip 2 or 3 generations, but I did smash the back of my XR (uncased fell out of pocket onto a bloody flint in Hailing Island beach car park ) so might have to upgrade before 4 years like i normally do!https://www.gottabemobile.com/5-reasons-to-wait-fo...
I cant think upgrading every year/ generation has any genuine justification now, its a want not a need. There is nothing wrong with that at all.

I'm still using my Iphone X, and not considering changing it just because of a few new fancy features. Long and short it works, and works well... why change it?I cant think upgrading every year/ generation has any genuine justification now, its a want not a need. Don't get me wrong, if you've say an iPhone 5 which won't get the latest IOS, or a 6s which seems slow and sluggish, or you desperately want wireless charging, then I get it. But if it's just a "better" camera, or faster processor, then meh... I can wait.

So far there’s nothing “new” feature wise that would make me upgrade. I went from an old SE to an XR for wireless charging and using cards/wallet etc. Didn’t really want the big screen but went with it and I’m surviving. It would take a big change/step forward to make me change again.

That website is utter drivel and doesn't actually provide any convincing argument. i've got an iPhone X and I'll be upgrading to a 12 Pro Max (or whatever it will be called) as soon as it's available. https://www.gottabemobile.com/5-reasons-to-wait-fo...

That’s pretty much where I am. I’ll upgrade to the 12 but I’d prefer the smaller version, fits better into my pockets. If the iPhone 12 has 5G, then it’ll be worth upgrading for 5G alone.
To increase your download speed many times over just by getting a new handset is a pretty big functional upgrade.
And for those who think they don’t need 5G - given file sizes only ever go up and apps and features will require ever more bandwidth - 4G will soon seem as inadequate as 3G.

I used to upgrade every 2 years, as there used to be significant enough hardware/feature changes to get me excited about the new model.
But between not wanting to lose Touch ID, and what seemed like only small tweaks, I haven’t upgraded since my iPhone 7 which was 2016.
The battery life is terrible (even with a replaced battery) but between having a charger at my desk, and lockdown, that hasn’t been too much of an issue. I was contemplating getting the 11 but didn’t as it didn’t have 5g compatibility.
So will upgrade this year, looking forward to the cameras and should actually feel like a significant change.

Currently with an XR. Happy with the size of this, and a big fan of face ID.
Probably upgrade in a couple of years once 5G is more consistent and more of a requirement. Not fussed about the super dooper quad camera set up, just want nice snap and go photos.

I currently have a 7 (my first iPhone), mainly choosing it because of its size so a new iPhone that's a similar size is certainly appealing to me. I did look at the new SE but it was announced at the start of lockdown IIRC so didn't want to splash out on a new phone when my current one still works for what I really need it to do, but now there's an all singing all dancing iPhone about the same size I may go for it.
My battery is now at 70% servicability so I could really do with either forking out for a new battery or a new phone. Man maths says a new phone is needed!

IMO that won't happen for another few years. I have 5g on my phone now and only get it when in London. It is nice to have but no where near essential. 4g is perfectly fine unless you are transferring large video files on a regular basis. Even with 4g videos stream with no buffering and if you are going to move files for editing on a desktop then you can't beat a usb stick. To increase your download speed many times over just by getting a new handset is a pretty big functional upgrade.

If you are upgrading to the iPhone 12 just for 5g if it has it then you'll be very disappointed.

If you think 5G is needed, it's worth learning a bit about 5G first. It's not as simple as 3 and 4G and isn't always going to be as fast as you think.
TLDR? There's two sorts, one which isn't much faster than 4G, but works for longer ranges (ie. similar to current 4G), the other sort is much much much faster, but has no penetration through buildings/obstructions, and is really short range.
You may even find that unless you get the Pro model, you don't get the super fast 5G, and even if you do that, there's no guarantees they're going to sprinkle transmitters all along your routes.
