Unless i missed something, why not just order direct from Apple?
Because there are better deals to be had elsewhere?

Better being subjective for the individual of course.

I thought no one discounts Apple phones? Apple doesn’t allow it do they?

There are deals/offers to be had on contracts - no good for me as I want to own the phone and choose my sim and provider. Happy to be proved wrong and shown a cheaper way to get an unlocked Pro Max .

I am sure you have worked it all out but the cost of the phone is the same everywhere, it's just the monthly tariff that varies surely?

Deals do exist from time to time that make it cheaper to get the phone on contract compared to buying it sim free. My mate got a stonking deal on the 11 Pro where total price over 24 months was cheaper than buying the phone sim free and a sim only deal

Good for him but he would have gotten an amazing deal on the contract, the phone wouldn’t have been discounted.

Fair do's.

Must admit i haven't had a phone on a contract for years now, so wasn't sure.

But at what point do you actually "own" the phone? I'll never go back to a contract.

Looking hopeful...

Just checked mine and seeing the same.

Not that it makes much difference as I’ll need the wife to ship it to me here in Budapest anyway, but still... good news biggrin

Once the contract is up. I do a 2 year contract including the phone then generally do 2 years of sim only after before I get a new phone.

Either way you do it the cost is basically the same.

Just signed up to an £8 a month for 12GB sim only contract with three (via moneysavingexpert) so will be going direct with Apple for the 12 mini.

Great value sim contract!

After CPW sent an email yesterday saying my order was delayed until end of November I ordered with mobilephonesdirect this morning and it has just been despatched.
I just did the same, cancelled Sky, got a Pro 512gb from these guys, already confirmed as on the way for tomorrow, very impressed at such short notice.

Why do you reckon that delay happened?
People paying extra to jump the queue.
Really? I didn’t expect that this year when there’s not much money about.

I wonder if Apple are creating a shortage intentionally?
There’s actually no shortage at all. I ordered a 12 Pro this morning, pick up tomorrow.

A lot of employers offfer discounted retailer perks
Eg I can buy John Lewis / Curry’s gift vouchers @ 8% discount. Sometimes upped to 10%
So buy at ‘full’ price, with a discounted gift voucher !

As I said, "better" is subjective and doesn't necessarily mean paying less over the full life of the device.

For me I've paid slightly more than retail but am paying much less each month as it is spread over 3 years. I have the option to pay it off earlier without penalty if I want to. The extra per month I am "saving" is going into my mortgage, which will be worth more to me than the actual saving on buying a phone from Apple.

tl;dr - man maths wink

How did you manage to do that?

When I ordered mine yesterday, there was no store collection available and earliest delivery was 6-13 Nov.

Edit: This is buying direct from Apple.

Interesting I can get the Iphone 12 Pro from Currys pick it up tomorrow.

Vodaphone are offering a free powerbank worth £30 to "make up" for the delay. I dont need a powerbank free or not. They could have emailed yeterday to ay it was delayed but chose not to and cant say when it will be delivered. So my current plan is to cancel and keep XR for a while!
