Apple iPhone 12 and Other Products Launch 2020
Discussion
I used to chop and changes phones a lot before smartphones came out, by then it was an annual thing but from the 5s onwards I started doing it every two years. My brother does the Apple monthly thing and changes his iPhone every year just to have the latest shiny device.
Had my X for over 2 years now but I may end up just getting the battery changed from Apple

There's an advert on the telly at the mo' for exactly that; new Apple phone every year.
Strange to know the telephonic buying habits of over one hundred of your work colleagues, but then I have an armpit fetish so who am I to judge!
Armpits? Get some time in, mate....Strange to know the telephonic buying habits of over one hundred of your work colleagues, but then I have an armpit fetish so who am I to judge!
I tend to make mine last 2-3 years then hand them down to eagerly awaiting kids, but I have plenty of friends who buy the latest one because they are interested in playing with the latest tech.
Personally I don’t want the hassle of being overrun with devices a few years down the line and trying to sell them on eBay and the like.

I don’t know ANYONE that buys a new smartphone every year. In fact, I’ve not known of anyone to do that for five years or so, and there’s over a hundred of us in my hangar at work.
My personal iPhone gets changed every 12mths at the most. I used to be on a grandfathered policy from O2 that allowed complimentary upgrades 6mthly which I loved - those were the days!I’ve had the 11 Pro Max and then the 11this year as an example.

It’ll be dead by the morning even if I shut all apps, locations etc off.
Edit: Happy for a fix but i'm very confident that the new battery is a good un.
It's probably your Tristar chip is faulty - this controls charging. The 6S was very common with this fault, but it can happen to later phones too AIUI. Take it to Apple, they may just give you a new phone for the price of a new batteryIt’ll be dead by the morning even if I shut all apps, locations etc off.

will there ever be a new smartphone that doesn’t kill its battery within the first 6 months?? thats the problem now, id happily keep mine 5 years+ otherwise.
Just pay to have the battery changed when needed, it's well worth the money. Should probably have to do it every 12 months or so.thebraketester said:
Had my Xs coming up to 2 years on the original battery. Battery health 85%.... still holds charge fine.
Yep. My XS is two years old next month. I hammer it, charge it at least twice a day although I rarely let the charge drop below 10%. 85% battery health here too. Tony1963 said:

My X is fine for battery life, although if the mobile signal strength is poor (like in my work office) it decreases at a much higher rate.DoctorX said:

Well, I used to run mine til it shut down until I read somewhere that it was best to recharge at around 10%. Suddenly the battery health reduced at a slower rate. Sad git keeps a record lol...
iPhone Battery Health
92% 23/4/19
91% 23/5/19
90% 25/5/19
88% 15/6/19
87% 28/6/19
86% 14/9/19 and still
86% 24/2/20
85% 21/3/20 and still
85% 27/6/20

I’m still on a 6s which is probably 4 or 5 years old. Obviously runs low if I’m doing stuff on it but then doing stuff in photos or imovie etc probably uses a stload of power compared with the old days. Fair enough, I think.
My daughters 6S died at the weekend, I was holding out for the new phones to be released and I was going to get a new one then give her my XR. She needs a phone for us to keep in contact with her so I’ve had to bite the bullet and get her a new SE. I’m not going to be happy if they drop the price next month! Means also I’ll be hanging on to my XR for a bit longer!dickymint said:
Rumours breaking now that the 12 could be unveiled via an "online event" as early as this week!!
