I bet the mini will fly off the shelves - suspect most people will be waiting for that.

...and tbh, it's a no brainer really.
I think you're right, I very nearly went down the mini route myself and I know my wife is waiting for one too.
For me it was a toss-up between the mini and the 12 Pro. The only reason I went for the Pro was because I really wanted the telephoto function (it's something I've wanted for a while) and the slightly bigger screen - that and the fact that I'm way overdue a new phone, so I thought I'd treat myself.

Otherwise, the mini really is the most compelling version in the series, in my opinion.
I’m thinking the same, the mini looks like a good option but I’m getting drawn to the telephoto camera!

They really should just concentrate on 100% 3/4G coverage. 3G. I guess that doesn’t sell new products though.

In case anyone is flying I walked into Dixon’s Carphone this morning and bought one sim free at 8:01. No queuing at all, funny that seeing as the airport was empty! Lol

Mine arrived this morning. 12pro. All set up and very happy. Even happier to discover we seem to have 5g in our town which I didn’t know. I get full bars in the living room and kitchen

Seems a bit variable tbh but so far best has been 468mbps. I just tried to download a netflix film. It took 24 seconds!

Not to say 5g isn’t great but wtf do you need download speeds that fast for on your phone?

My house still doesn’t get 3G outside so I’m obviously not the target market using 1-2gb of data a month when in town.

You don’t. That is true. But our home internet is currently using a 4g router and sim as where we are there is no usable broadband alternative. 5g home internet would be a good thing for us and as I seem to have a decent signal inside it’s got me thinking.....

The camera appears to be epic as well. Although I’m coming from an iPhone 8 so you may not be so impressed if coming from a newer phone?

I recently moved to Scotnet wireless broadband, went from 1.5 mb phone line to 40mb down and up for less than BT were costing me!

Data “cap” is around 1tb a month but unless you take the piss they don’t care if you go over it now and then. Latency is 15-20ms and stable so can be used for all sorts of use from gaming to 4K streaming.

Worth looking into if there’s something local with similar coverage.

Anyone in a 5G area got any results to share?

My mate just sent me this... seems like this will be a game changer when it’s more widespread
LTE has been in the UK for 8 years now and has a theoretical max speed of 300Mb. Outside of major towns you're lucky to see even a tenth of that.

5G has reduced range and attentuates more through walls, windows, inclement weather etc. You would need way more masts to get the same coverage.

It also drains battery 20% faster based on a recent iPhone benchmark.

So my prediction is that 5G will change very little.
We have a couple of direct examples from people saying “wow never realised 5G was this good here’s my ~500Mbps result from inside my house”.

I think that’s pretty promising, personally.

I have an LTE modem wired to a directional antenna pointing straight at a tower 2.0km away and have some dependency on it, but without CA it’s only good in my case for about 70Mbps. Seeing as Openreach still wants over £100k to trench fibre to my home, I’m prepared to hold out on the hope that Vodafone will give me a working 300-500Mbps connection some time in the next few years when they upgrade the cell. It took them about 3 years from installing LTE in central London to equipping my part of rural Shropshire.

As I said. My results so far have been pretty variable. And has been noted. I don’t need those speeds on a phone but it’s interesting nonetheless.

Results so far vary between ~250 to ~ 470 mbps

That’s more than enough for anything these days.

Has a look for 5g routers. Not much happening but I suspect in a few years that may be the way to go. Coverage seems dodgy I guess we are just lucky with where we are. No idea where the mast is but even 4g here on phone has been great. Say average of 100 mbps so we are obviously I. A good spot. I suppose it will take a while for everyone to get such luck

I have yet to contract COVID from it but I will keep you posted....

Sigh...

Well at least I got my text earlier. I have also had a phone call from them apologising. I feel sorry for those making the calls, or receiving them.

But I don’t get the reasoning behind it the problem. Surely it’s simple Apple tell a retailer you can have 1000 iPhone 12 max 128gb on 22nd October.

Once the retailer has sold them they put on their website “Sorry sold out”. They should not be sending texts on the day of delivery saying sorry.

Especially when other retailers have stock!

I changed my mind a week ago and upgraded to the 12 Pro using some proper man maths, anyway I got the Vodafone text and message like above but no mention of a free powerpack.

Good news though, my Spigen case for the new phone dropped through the door today so at least I can compare the size with my X.

My 12 pro just arrived. It’s a little bit bigger than the X it’s replacing and noticeably heavier. I haven’t played with it too much yet, but it seems like all the camera modes have a lot more options to mess with compared to the X

I just spoke to Sky about mine and they said that if you are told it is a delay of a day or so then it is because the courier doesn't have the capacity to deliver them all on the same day. Basically Sky act like a front end for Apple rather than having their own stock and the phones go straight from Apple to the courier.

I messaged Curry's on Twitter regarding the November 24th date in its email.

Apparently this is a 'fulfilled by' date so I'm hoping it'll arrive sooner than that. They wouldn't give any more info though.

Thanks for that, I can almost get my X and it's case inside the new case for the 12 pro so not too much bigger. Looking forward to it now.
