LeadFarmer and H0B0, I am no expert, but I sync my iPhone using the Finder, rather than iTunes. Connect phone to MacBook, Phone will appear under "Locations" in the Finder and you can then do your stuff with sync, or whatever.

H0B0, having reread your posts, I suspect this won't help you if you are using a non-Mac computer.
Yes, as if to confirm iTunes was always there to punish and not empower, they made us PC owners still dependent on it.

I’ve had a Mous limitless case on my XS for a couple years. It’s had some hard knocks and has been great. Highly recommended.
That’s what I’ve gone from previous experience. Still waiting for it to turn up though.

What cases have people gone with? I went without a case and screen protector on my green 11 Pro, and its not in very good condition, so I've learned my lesson here

Can't decide between the Pacific Blue or the Graphite, if I went for the blue I'd want a case that shows the colour, but interested to see what is available that doesn't add too much bulk but still protects the phone
I've got the Apple clear case, nice quality and very sturdy but rather ugly circle on the back due to MagSafe grumpy
Quadlock, as per my last couple of phones. Added the Ring too for additional purchase when taking pics on the move and for angled desk usage etc.

Sits flush within the already protruding mounting system.

Still waiting for everything to be sent from the UK, and have ordered some new B&W PX7 Carbon Edition headphones so it will be techy Christmas when they get here biggrin

i just went with the apple silicone case. ridiculous price for what it is.

also just waiting on delivery of ‘esr screen protector’. used that brand on my xs and seemed fine. cheap enough, dropped my old phone a few times and the screen protector cracked/ took the impact and the actual screen is still perfect

I’m going for a Pacific Blue phone so also thinking clear case.

I’d really like to be able to charge the phone on the charging pad in my car. Currently the phone gets too hot on there and shuts down. Apparently that’s down to the case.

Thanks for all the case suggestions, bad company has just thrown a spanner in the works here with his comment re car charging.

Assuming BC is talking about the M340i, it will have the same wireless charging as my new X3 arriving soon, so I might have to go caseless after all!

Yes it’s the charging pad in the M340i. When I had the original clear case purchased with my iPhone X it took an hour or 2on the pad before the phone overheated so no real issue. Then I replaced the case with a more solid one and it overheats after about 30 minutes.

I wouldn’t go without a case, you’re bound to drop it sometime.

I’ve got a blue phone too hence the clear case. No in car charger so don’t know if it will work. You could always get a MagSafe charger for the car hehe

Assuming you could fix it down, that might actually be a useful use for it!

The BMW charging pad can be set to alert you if go to leave your phone in the car. That wouldn’t happen with MagSafe though it could still be plugged into one off the cars USB ports.

my brother purchased a 12 pro and i compared with my XS Max - overall its better but i tend to have the brightness on my screen quite high and when looking at pictures on high brightness the XS Max's screen leaves the 12 pro's for dead, aside from that the 12 pro is better in every other way, speakers are fantastic and photographer is much better in low light conditions!

I’m going to be honest, I like the phone and I’m not sorry I upgraded. But it doesn’t seem like a step change from the X to be honest!

I'd probably suggest that the X is the threshold. That is, below that, it'll be a big improvement, X and above won't be quite as obvious.

I’ve done a restore from XS to 12 pro and it’s like I have the same phone but £1100 out of pocket. Ok the camera is amazing, a bit faster but apart from that, not much difference. But my man maths talked me into it as recently handed back a PCP motorbike at £70 a month and this is only £45. Quids in

As for the MagSafe, what a waste of money, I just bought a clear case off Amazon and leave on my wireless charger overnight.

To be fair to Apple, they make the biggest song and dance about the camera and materials used in the camera. So I wouldn’t expect much more than a slightly faster operation and a great camera!

This is exactly why I won’t switch. I know once a case is on it, it’ll be near enough identical to my XS.

A convert from Android here, or perhaps a legacy iPhone user coming home?

Anyway, I’ve ordered an iPhone 12 Pro, delivery due at some point next week and am looking forward to it. Thanks to a previous employer I had a number of iPhone 4 and 5 handsets, replacing a number of Blackberries, before I left that organisation and fended for myself telephony wise. That entailed a Google Nexus (cheap), quickly followed by a Samsung Galaxy S5 and then an S8. I’ve had the S8 for three and a half years now, and have been keeping an interested eye on the market in general. In recent times Samsung, nor any of the other premium Android handsets, have lit my fire in terms of justifying £800-odd for marginal improvements over the S8. However the iPhone 12 does show an vast improvement in hardware terms over the trusty S8, particularly with the Pro version.

So from an 8 Plus its worthwhile? The XR seems good value now at £500 for a straight purchase.
