I’m going to be honest, I like the phone and I’m not sorry I upgraded. But it doesn’t seem like a step change from the X to be honest!
I'd probably suggest that the X is the threshold. That is, below that, it'll be a big improvement, X and above won't be quite as obvious.Tony1963 said:
To be fair to Apple, they make the biggest song and dance about the camera and materials used in the camera. So I wouldn’t expect much more than a slightly faster operation and a great camera!
Yeah - all of the above. From an XS, I would not normally think the two steps ahead would be enough to swing it (ceteris paribus) - for example I waited with a 6S for the XS, but really only went for the change when my (very heavily used) 6S started to show its age and was starting to eat its second battery etc.
But the XS camera is very good - I get some great landscapes and social photos - but I really fancy (and am just in a possibly financial sweet spot just at the moment, plus will take a trade-in) going full in to the Pro Max camera (with 'phone and computer attached!).... but I readily put me hands up and declare I might just be an "Apple Mug" for behaviour which even I think is borderline irrational.
But iPhones have just got so good, and are so well integrated now between hardware and OS that it cannot be logical to "upgrade" and it's a bit of a sideways move unless you've wrung the death out of a 6, 7, 8....(?)

just a heads up to those selling/ trading in- music magpie seem to offer some of the best value. but i also used a code ‘10extra’ and they give you and extra 10% on the trade in price (up to a max of £20).
got £340 for a 64gb iphone xs (2yrs old) which i thought was reasonable and helped with the man maths of buying the new phone

I saw that iOS 14.1 was available this morning, so I installed it.
Now photos won't save once I have drawn on them using 'Markup'. I just keep getting an error message of 'Unable to save changes'.
Which is annoying.
I found out as I screenshot an email and drew a red 'highlighter pen' circle round a paragraph on it to send to a colleague. It just won't allow me to save any photos that have been doodled on now.

A few years ago I sent them my iPhone 8 which had a screen protector fitted when it came out the box and removed on the day I sent it to them, they initially offered me a good price but after receiving the phone sent me a revised offer which was about £200 less due to "deep scratching on the screen" which was a complete lie.

I had a similar experience when I sent my previous iPad back to Apple for trade in. There was nothing wrong with it but they said the resolution wasn’t right and reduced the value to zero. Never again, I’m waiting until I can trade in at the shop at time of purchase.A few years ago I sent them my iPhone 8 which had a screen protector fitted when it came out the box and removed on the day I sent it to them, they initially offered me a good price but after receiving the phone sent me a revised offer which was about £200 less due to "deep scratching on the screen" which was a complete lie.

like you both phones were in perfect condition, in cases on day 1 with screen protectors on. when i was packaging them up i was actually quite surprised why i was selling something that looked in perfect condition and spending another grand just for the latest shiny thing!

I just wouldn't bother trading in at all.We bought an iPhone 11 for my wife recently in an Apple store, and the guy offered to take her old one off her as a trade in and knock the money off the 11 she was buying.
She had an iPhone 7 in really good condition and he offered £65 for it. I just laughed when he said it. We kept it and just gave it to her mum instead.
I usually just sell them privately and if I had stuck it on eBay it would have made £150-200.
In short: Trade in prices will always attempt to shaft you. Always sell privately to get more cash.

Was in Currys last night buying something else and got the chance to try the 12 which has made my mind up that the Mini will be big enough for me.
I’m thinking the mini now. When I got my XR it took me ages to get used to the bigger screen (had a 8 previously), I might downsize! My 12 128GB arrived today (Was mean't to come Tuesday but was delayed getting to DPD for some reason). I had 2 reservations when pre-ordering:
1) The size might be a bit big (My girlfriend has an XR and it feels massive)
2) The blue in the youtube videos looked a bit naff compared to the Apple renders.
Both reservations have now gone. It doesn't feel too big at all (coming from a 6s) and the colour looks fine in real life.
Had an issue transferring everything across, as my 6s was on the public beta program, so was running iOS 14.2, whereas the 12 was running 14.1. So had to join the beta program to upgrade the version to save me starting from scratch.
Fitted a screen protector and case (the screen protector came with a alignment frame which made it very easy) and went for a clear case from the same vendor.
Phone seems much snappier than my 6s (obviously), and the camera/screen etc does seem very good so far. Liking the bigger screen for web browsing etc. Hopefully this phone will give me 5 years of solid service like my 6s!

I just had an email saying they'd update me in 10 days if they know anymore. Cancelled it now after reading many, many reviews and deciding it's not enough of a change from the X I already have.
I have a text saying I’ll be updated in 4 days time... I’m unable to cancel the order until the phone actually fking arrives. Smiljan said:

Now that’s tomorrow - strangely not holding my breath!
I am tempted to cancel as well although last time I tried that I was told I couldn’t cancel until it was delivered!
Edited to add unsurprisingly the estimated delivery date has now moved out to 31st October. It’s moving a day every day at present
