If you’re after a FE model and you’d rather a quieter card, I’d just get the 3090FE if you can find one and be done with it.

The bigger card has the better cooler on it.

Will they continue to make the non-Ti versions I wonder? Probably not, or at least it will put pressure on the numbers of older spec cards available. They will want to shift sales to the higher priced units.

It's a handy way to take advantage of the fact that Nvidia can now command much higher prices for their GPUs than they announced for their original lineup of RTX30x0 cards, especially in the case of the 3080Ti.

Can't say I blame them too much - despite the massive scalping and profiteering at the retail level that GPU sales have attracted in the last six months, Nvidia won't have seen much if any direct benefit. In fact, to their credit they have continued to make and sell their original line of FE cards at RRP, even though supply has never come close to demand.

Could be a good chance for the likes of Microsoft to make console sales to PC owners unable to upgrade their GPU ... The Xbox Series X does sort of sell itself as a direct alternative to the PC for gaming. If MS can maintain a good supply of product there is a real chance for them to gain ground here.

I think they should still be making non-Ti cards, they always have with 10, 9, 7 series. It was only the Super range that replaced the original cards.

Yeah thats my plan, FE suits me fine. The 3080 FTW3 I have is worth enough the change wont cost me too much and will do me for a long time.

I mainly play DCS/Flight SIMS to whatever I can throw at it helps.

The problem is getting the FE in time to trade around whilst my cards still worth a decent amount. My attempts at alerts have so far failed to nab one.

CEX are selling the FE @ 2300, which is nuts.

I've placed an order with Infinite Computing who will let you join their backorder list. It's going to be a couple of months I suspect until I get to the front of the queue, but it takes the stress out of it and means you've got a guaranteed card at some point. I'm also then looking when I can for a stock drop that isn't with one of the suppliers trying to ruthlessly scalp everyone by charging double or triple the RRP.

Given the current silicon shortage, I strongly suspect that your existing card will maintain reasonable value for most of the year.

Yeah I suspect so, just bugs me as thats the final step for my rig, VR headset is on the list but I dont want to bite the bullet until I know the difference between the 3080 and the 3090.

Reviews are in 3080 Ti is a rip off.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vtkk-_0jrPU

Basically the Ti is 71% more expensive than the 3080 (at MRSP prices) with less than 10% the performance boost.

nVidia scalping their own customers so the scalpers don't have to....

Alternatively it's 95% of a 3090 at 4K or below, at about 75% of the price. Nobody buys a flagship card because it's good value for money- exactly the same was true of previous generation cards to varying degrees.

What if someone who owns a 3080 they could sell 2nd hand and get a 3080Ti for the same price?

similar to 3080 vs 3090. For gaming it was something like 7% increase in fps vs + 100% cost. Though the card did have other benefits over 3080 due to vram etc.

I still think if I am going to be able to choose (much chance), ill take 3090.

There's also the question of how cards hold up over time. The 2080ti was a poor deal at 50% price increase for 10% additional performance over a 2080 at released, but they now routinely top 30% faster in new titles with Ray Tracing and even more at 4K+.

Might try and nab a 3080ti today if by any remote chance there is an opportunity - step down in mining but if its near 3090 would satisfy my itch for a while.

Mayhem.....refreshing them all.

Finally got a 3070. So my old card is straight on Ebay to see what craziness it makes.

Agreed - the 2080ti is a great card. Very fast and only looks silly price wise compared to a rrp fe 3080 or rrp fe 3070. Both of which seem impossible enough to get.

Use the Telegram app/PC Desktop prog and join the FE PartAlert set notifications on. You can get Telegram for desktop off the site, don't use the Windows store version.

Part Alert - https://t.me/joinchat/AAAAAEii3xT81U1A6tLjrQ

They post a link straight to it, you can't find it on the website, you have to go via Nvidia's shop this takes less time.

Don't give up, I did, then 10 minutes after the drop I tried the link again and the green button to add to basket was there. Where it had previously been missing with the price shown, or out of stock.
