Not really tried anything else yet flight sim seems to load ok on 2D but I know VR puts the most stress on the graphics card, it run fine on a 1080ti.

I've just ordered a 850w power supply anyway to try it, the one I've got must be nearly 10 years old now.
I’m surprised your 600W hasn’t died. They recommend a minimum 750W for the 3080Ti and I’ve heard of weird spikes in excess of that with the 3080-3090.
Yep, PSU for sure. I had random crashes with a 750W driving my 3090 (particularly in VR) which have completely gone with a 1000W PSU. Personally it be thinking that even an 850W is a bit marginal and if you have the option, cancel that one and go for something a bit beefier.

Agree on the PSU. I got a decent EVGA Plus 80 850W one for the 3090 and all seems fine.

Don’t make the costly mistake I made though. Common one (haven’t really built any PCs since the early 2000s) but should have known better….PSU quick connectors on modular or semi modular units aren’t interchangeable despite fitting in the same hole. I nuked both my hard drives and had to fork out £150 to replace them. Thankfully most stuff was backed up, but make sure you change ALL cables in the case for the ones that come with the new PSU!

Yep, I've took the advice and cancelled the 850 and gone for a 1000 one, nearly twice the price though. I think clocking the processor adds a fair bit of load on its own, its certainly warm in there.

My 3080ti is chugging along fine on my Corsair RM750i power supply…

Famous last words!

Paid RRP (£1300) for my 3090 FE card from Scan. They're re-selling on ebay for a lot more than that, but those people won't be able to buy another FE card from Scan afterwards. You'll be pleased to know mine is happily sat in my PC running iRacing and ACC.
I believe it was £1399? :-) Just wanted to remind you quite how expensive these cards are haha.

I wonder what percentage of limited edition/FE cards sell at near MSRP?
I paid exactly the RRP for my 3070 FE on launch day, are they now selling higher than that? Or did you mean folk punting them on eBay charging more than RRP?

The latter for the most part.

I got my 3070 FE from Scan at RRP in August (£469?). eBay had several identical cards as 'buy it now' offers of £950 or more.

Cards have really surged again the last couple of weeks due to Etherium going up and holding.

About what I paid for mine, £480 incl Scan's postage fee.

Wondering if I should put my old 970 and 1650 up on eBay... The again I don't really want to deal with ebayers.

I don't know if it's a deliberate strategy of Nvidia and/or Scan, but none of the Telegram alerts about Scan since the start of August have offered the non Ti 3060/3070/3080 FE cards - only the Ti versions (plus the 3090 FE, of course). There have been some non Ti cards across the whole range available in European stores though.

My card is now working ok with the uprated power supply so it was obviously the problem....but its nowhere near as good an improvement as I was expecting. Whilst flight simulator is a lot better than it was it still stutters and the framerate drops right down in densely populated areas. Its not helped that today of all days they have just updated the simulator and last time it played havoc with everyone's settings.

How many CPU cores do you have and what res are you running MSFS at?

I gather it’s a very CPU intensive application. A 3080Ti shouldn’t be a bottleneck.

It could be the CPU, its a i7 8700k but its overclocked to 4.9ghz. It is running in VR though with a rift S. Its not that its terrible but I was expecting silky smoothness with a new GPU.

On the normal TV 1080p the graphics are spot on and flawless.

8700k will most likely be your problem.
