Thanks for the heads up, been toying with a 3060ti but then thought fek it in the true pistonheads way. Go large or go home!

Interestingly it is Scan supplying them, and on their site the cheapest 3090 is £2000.

The FE is still in stock at £1399 for now. Not sure why anyone would bother with one of the AIB cards. £1400 is already too much but £2K! eek

beer Nice. I’ve had mine for over a year now and it’s the best FE IMO.

Be aware that you might have to take some tin snips to the PCI slots at the back of your case as the exhaust of this card is a bit of a beast and I had to remove two struts that were partially covering the exhaust.

3090FE is a great card, I had a 3080FE but glad I made the switch, 3090 is cooled way better and seems more stable to undervolt/overclock.

Hopefully I'm OK, not sure whether anyone with a Fractal Define 7 can confirm?

Should be fine- most modern cases don't have any support struts in the PCI-E bracket area.

Mmm, got my 3090 today but I can’t get any image out of it on any of the outputs. Wonder if my system is just too old, 3770K but the psu is 750w so should be enough. My motherboard is PCIe x16

I don’t even see the bios screen, I’ve reseated it to no avail and put my old graphics card in which does work.

How many channels are you using to power it?

2 individual PCIe cables from 2 PSU sockets and 1 from PCIe slot, or have you got a splitter from a single PSU PCIe socket?

Have you plugged 2x PCIe power cables into the 8pin to 12 pin adapter to the card?

Worth trying a BIOS update on your motherboard, assuming you connected the power to the GPU correctly.

You’ll need to remove the 3090FE before doing so if you can’t get an output with it installed though.

Thanks, yes two cables into the adapter which feed from separate sockets on the psu. The bios is the latest on the mb, but is still 2013!

I have seen some comments about a third power cable, or the PCIe power as mentioned above - what is that? The card only has a single power socket on it, which the two PCIe cables feed into via the adaptor. The fans spin up on it but there are no lights.

That will be with non-FE cards that still used 8pin on the card, 3 of them.

What are you using on the GPU for output to the monitor, HDMI or Displayport?

Displayport - tried all 3 sockets and the hdmi just in case.

3770k is getting on a bit now.

Isn’t that Ivy Bridge Z87 era?

I can’t see why it wouldn’t work, but it really is old school now.
Not even any M.2. SSD is only sata unless you’re running a pcie ssd card?

I’d go with just good old mobo bios/pcie incompatibility issues.
The 275 GTX was what I ran as my gpu at the time on my 4770k.

We’re about 5 generations on since then?

Yep, she’s a classic - just wanted to get it working before I upgraded the rest of it. Guess it’s an incentive to buy it all now.

Thanks anyway.

And if anyone is still looking for a decent card but don't want to buy new at current prices or turn away at the high prices of low end new "budget" cards, the best value per FPS GPU the GTX 1080 has dropped below £300 2nd hand on Ebay (they were averaging £350-360 late last year.

Recent sold working cards
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 OC - £285
MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Gaming X - £290
EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW2 - £275
GTX 1080 Founders Edition - £260
Palit GameRock Nvidia GTX 1080 - £290

Indeed. A 2% performance increase over my 3090FE that cost £1400, and I considered that too much.

Hmmm interesting.

I might go this route for my lounge PC/gaming machine… I still need to check what the heat is like though vs 2070/80.

It’s a good indicator of where the 2080 will be in 6-12 months when all the madness subsides though.

Just watched an RTX 3070 sell on Ebay for £590.

Lots of RTX 3070s on Ebay with stupid buy it now prices rightly getting no attention at all from people who haven't yet realised the time has passed.
