I was tempted to ordering an EVGA 3080 for FS2020 on 4K but reading the specs here it’s a PCie 4 card - what does that mean if I have a PCIe 3 MoBo?
A new mobo, obviously.
Which means a new CPU and memory.
Duh.
Er... As Rob said 2 posts above it will work fine ...

Spent some more time last night with 'Control' and DLSS .... It really is an amazing technology.

1440p Ultra settings with all ray tracing on and my 2070 S is not in its comfort zone at about 33 fps.

DLSS on and i'm getting around 60fps and I'll be damned if I can see any loss in quality.

Hopefully more devs will take it onboard .

Cyberpunk uses DLSS. Not long to go.
Great stuff didn't know that. I'm hoping it will rekindle my interest in games..... Mind you I did enjoy Outer Worlds.

It looks like pre-orders aren't a thing with these cards. Is it basically going to be impossible to get one at RRP this side of Christmas?
An article in TechRadar suggests they may not be readily available until mid-2021 - apparently there are still some issues at Samsung with the 8nm node these GPUs are built on.
Do you have a link cant find it.

I am determined to have the latest and greatest in my pc for once and not think about having the value option, last time I did that was with a Voodoo 5500, the twin GPU job. Then, that should do me for several years.
That was a fantastic card ! Wish I had kept mine..... Have you seen how much they go for on eBay !

Yeah, I had a look, amazing really.

We were skint with 2 small kids and had a minor windfall.
Great times smile I remember waiting for my local computer shop to take delivery of their Righteous 3D cards ( Voodoo 1 ) .... I was running a Matrox Millenium at the time .. I must have called them 3 times a day for about a month ! First time I ran EF2000 with the Voodoo and FS98 ! I was jumping up and down like a little kid smile Only surpassed by the first few minutes after my cable modem was installed ..... Was it 128k ? ( Blueyonder ) I'll have Gigabit soon !

PC gaming is a reasonably recent thing for me so apologies if this is a daft question.

The FE reference cards, is there any downside to them over a 3rd party card. I'm looking at the 3070 in particular. I like the clean lines of it over the RGB everywhere designs everyone else seem to be releasing.
Some people like the cooler design, others don't and aren't sure of how well it will work, it may in practice be nosier than a third party card.

The FE cards do not actually use a reference board either, for aftermarket cooling, so waterblocks that fit the 3070/3080 reference will
not fit FE cards.

I believe the FE cards also have a factory overclock, I'll be going for one and putting an aftermarket waterblock on it, though I think the Nvidia cooler will be fine.
Good to know. I'll wait until there are some reviews out there before I choose then. Realistically I'm not in a crazy rush for a new card. My lad just went back to boarding school so I've swapped my 2060 for his 2070 until he comes home rofl
Dont tell him .... Will be interesting to see how long it takes him to notice !

Ok or fine is pretty indeterminate though. A 2070S will cut run all AAA games at 1440p, it is up to the user to decide the FPS and detail settings they are prepared to accept.

Providing you are getting better performance than you were pre upgrade, most users will be happy.
Only game I’ve struggled with at ultra settings at 1440 on my 2070 Super is control and that’s with all the ray tracing set to max.... Turn on DLSS and frame rate increases from 30 to 60 and I can’t perceive any loss in quality.

Yes, totally. There's always something new coming round the corner and waiting for the latest, greatest shiny thing is a mug's game.
Unless you buy the 3080 in which case the something new is about another year away. But when you buy a 2070 now that something new is 4 weeks away...

Now if a 2070 was sold for £250, then I’d buy it.
I love my 2070 Super but I’m waiting for the 3080 Super wink

Online sales come from warehouses, store stock for store sales. You could always try queuing early (camping) outside your local Currys PC World. Or anyone else local to you expected to have them.

Or you might want to give them all a miss for now - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6bUUEEe-X8
Wow ! Does this mean my 2070 Super will now be worth £600 ? biggrin
