I don't think its been mentioned on this thread as a possible downside for some (and it may be considered a little tinfoil headgear) but there are some other impacts to the new chip (including that it won't allow OS pre Big Sur) that Apple have been less talkative about. If you're a Little Snitch user in particular it's worth a read.

Thanks, I was not aware of this.

Anyone think there will be any Black Friday offers? Really interested in the new Mini.

If Apple play to form in the UK, then there'll be nothing on offer directly from Apple.

Mighty unlikely for a brand new product. Equally unlikely from any manufacturer for that matter.

I ordered mine a couple of hours after it was a announced, but it won’t arrive until next week.
Why is life so unfair?

Actually, what’s really unfair is my employer won’t provide a decent laptop so I’m having to upgrade my own.

Mightily tempting, but will probably wait until next year. My 2012 MacBook Pro is still going strong, 91% battery health and still feels pretty rapid. It's travelled everywhere with me for the past 7 years, but it's definitely a bit bulky by today's standards and I think Catalina is the last major software update for it.

Watching the reviews and real world tests roll in today, it seems a lot of people will be needing to eat their words.

Does it mean the end of Bootcamp?

Much as I love my MBP, it’s only great for me as mine is currently dual boot with Win 10 Pro too.

....and another nice - and balanced, thoughtful one - from MKBHD : https://youtu.be/f4g2nPY-VZc

And yes - they're considering how real-world issues affect the experience not just the "top trumps" statistics which is really good to see.

If I was in the market - especially if it happened to be that an MBA could fit a hole, there would be no stopping me.

I've got a 2014 work iMac to consider changing at some point in the future and I can be patient for another year, 2 or 3 while it comes to a mature product and I will be pretty excited I can tell!

Apparently it won’t run bootcamp.

It looks like they really are, in many cases, that fast.

Dave Lee has a good review, he puts them through a fair few different tests and benchmarks.

So far, it's the air that's impressing me the most. A 13" thin and light with that much power?! Yes please.

The Verge review on the Macbooks https://youtu.be/OEaKQ0pxQsg

Dave Lee review on the Macbooks and Mini https://youtu.be/XQ6vX6nmboU

Thumbs up all round in general. Silly fast compared to Intel Macs. The only downers being the webcams and the iOS apps on the desktop OS.

Very impressive from what I can see on Youtube. Fair play to Apple

Looks really interesting.
I’m thinking of making the jump to Mac and the new chip sounds really good.

After lockdown I might go to store and have a play.

Just ordered a mini to replace my ageing Mac Pro which still runs fine but defunct software has become a big issue on it.
