Sorry I should have clarified. I have no idea how to get the gubbins in the "IT cupboard" to work effectively so I disconnected it all. Now we just have the Smart Hub plugged into the fibre socket via ethernet, and everything is connected wirelessly. We routinely get 300mbps but the connection drops frequently, which thanks to the power of PH seems likelt to be the hub, so I should probably replace it.Order66 said:

Yeah, 100mbit/s speeds have only really become an 'issue' for most people now that broadband speeds are getting so high.Even then, if you can provide 100mbit/s speeds from the hub to individual nodes around your house, that's probably more than good enough for most people as few things that you will be doing need more than 100bit/s or show any sort of improvement.
The only drawback IMO is for stuff like huge games downloads on Steam or PSN/Xbox. That's about the only area where you will notice 100mbit/s holding you back once you get a superfast broadband connection. Going from FttC to FttP really boosted my Steam downloads and showed up weaknesses in the speed of my Powerline setup. Or I guess, if you're actually using your home network as a real network (as opposed to just giving internet access) and want to connect clients to servers.
i misread/mis-remembered where he said it was unstable rather than slow.
We've now started seeing Wi-Fi standards out-stripping speeds achievable across typically available cable standards. It's almost impossible to achieve or utilise those speeds though, and clearly you'd need devices, networking equipment, broadband AND cables which all support it in order to make use of it.

If you can’t get openreach to address your issues then A&A isp take on poorly performing services & bring openreach in to resolve the issues, they cost more than bt but I suspect less than starlink & then once your issue is resolved you can move away with a working service to a cheaper provider.We have BT fibre to our house, which on the face of it should be great, but is in fact s

By the same thing you could also connect a wired device and check if it’s simply a wifi issue or if the router has a issue.
Relatively simple to do some fault finding before changing routers or isp’s.
My Ethernet adapter died the other day, I raised a ticket explaining what I’d try to resolve and confirm it not working any more (had it just under a year with no issues) and the very first reply back I get says they’re sending out a new one, and also a new router too.
No stupid questions or running through scripts telling me to restart it and all that nonsense.

Thanks, thinking about it I wonder if the current offer is so they can offload Gen 2 equipment before offering Gen 3. Just debating whether to bite the bullet or not. Edited by davidexige on Friday 26th April 12:24

I basically set a budget of £200 and bought the first one that was around that price range. I really don't see a huge difference between a few of them at that price range. But I have now seen units that do 3000sq ft as well so may well get those in due course for better coverage.
