Don’t think so. AirTags are linked to a single account and are specifically designed not to be used for tracking objects like dogs and children
They are intended for making sure you don’t leave the keys or your laptop in the house/office. Unfortunately for apple, everyone immediately stuck one to their child, dog or bicycle and then moaned that the anti-stalking measures fit in the way of tracking as we wanted to use them.
I can see apple's point regarding privacy and whatever but when they were first released, the looked to be the perfect device for keeping track of valuables like bikes and for parents to track their kids in busy places.
Seems to be the case. Just been in holiday so stuck it in one of the suitcases. I didn’t get a notification when the case left me, I couldn’t track it at all whilst it was in transit and I could see it in front of me on the carousel before the app updated to “usefully” tell me it was back with me. Glad I only spend £20 odd quid on it because I can’t really see a use case for them unless you’re someone who constantly leaves keys behind. Expect it wouldn’t tell you you had left them behind until you’d walked out the front door and locked yourself out!

Off topic slightly, as I know these are no use for tracking people.......but what is the best thing to use if I did want to track my 10 year old? He's just at that age where he's started going out long distances with his mates, and I would like to know where he is from time to time.
We got the Xplora X5 watch for the oldest. Purpose was to give him independence to go round a few friends houses that stay locally while knowing where he is, while avoiding an actual phone that would get lost/bashed.Very handy that he can let us know he’s staying to play at someone’s house/going to try his next friend if they’re not in/heading home.
It has geo fencing zones and is locked only to the app for any contact through calls and messages. It’s got a pretty decent camera on it and a step counter with constant goals on the Xplora system. Has been a fantastic purchase, which we managed to bag in the Amazon sales for £120 and then throw a cheap sim in.

I have attached an Airtag to each of our bikes, using 3D printed mounts under the water bottle holder. Once they get some mud etc on them they're hard to spot. These are also available on Amazon etc.
One of the bikes got stolen a few months ago - and I was able to see it's location an hour before, which took me to the road (4 miles from me) where it had been. I parked up and walked down the road, and the location updated as I got close to where it was - hidden at the back of someone's driveway. Took bike back
For that one bike return they have been well worth the money.
I have removed the speaker in one as described above, it's working fine without it.

Even for simple stuff like keys, it is a dumb design. My wife can find her car keys, but I can't because it won't bloody work on my phone as well. I suppose Apple lives in a world where everyone drives their own car. They are intended for making sure you don’t leave the keys or your laptop in the house/office. Tile is lot better, in most urban settings, coverage is very similar.
Well, her car came with two sets, she lost one, so I stuck a tile on the remaining one. I tried an air tag (assuming it would be better) and it is such a broken design, it has been relegated to the dog.
The tech is clearly very good, but the people who whinge about theoretical stalking attacks have ruined it.

Somewhat lost among all Apple's product announcements yesterday - Airtag sharing in iOS 17 https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ios-17-lets-y...

Ahhh, finally!Like the comments….indeed, about bloody time!!
It was a big disappointment to find the ‘security tags’ I got in the last Black Friday ready for our big interrail adventure couldn’t be shared. Back now: nothing stolen or lost!
Might have to leave them near the phone for a while to check if they get updated.
Shame you can’t seem to push the update out….

"A shared car with an AirTag, for example, will no longer send up warnings about an unknown AirTag when the person who doesn't own the AirTag is using the car."That's going to lead to a few newspaper articles.

How long does an airtag battery last?
And don't buy replacement batteries with the bitterant coatings as they may not work - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211670Edited by PF62 on Tuesday 6th June 18:37
