Forgive me but wouldn’t a VM be easier?
I have tried VM but it's often not satisfactory. Its seems as if nothing runs XP better than a computer which was built during or shortly after XP's era.
Update.
Fitted a different motherboard and processor bought from a reputable source.
It still does the same thing as before: begins to power up for a few seconds then powers off.
However.......
With the computer in bits, therefore easier to see inside, I noticed that there is a lot of corrosion on the tiny power switch that the button+lever push onto.
