But if we were still part of the EU what they are doing would be illegal, so they only have the opportunity to charge us more because of Brexit. It is impossible to separate the 2.
Couldn't the UK just implement the same caps for UK contracts?

Although knowing the UK government's past performance on contracts/negotiations, we'd probably be better off if they didn't bother wink

My contract is up shortly, so I'll be asking for a reduction in the bill to take account of the reduction in service. Wonder what the answer will be!

Brexit certainly does change stuff, hence why the price increases. The actual underlying costs haven't changed, but the EU networks like good capitalistic corporates are gouging away the UK networks customers. You can bet your bottom dollar that the UK operators are gouging the roaming foreign users too. Double G&T's all round - huzzah!
The networks are largely the the same company or have agreements and roaming by and large costs them no more than domestic usage. The gouging is UK networks and their own customers...

You could presumably stay on the existing contract and keep your roaming data? Depends if its sim only or with phone I guess, anyone on a nice sim only deal will be keeping hold of it and buying a phone with cash.

Except many very competitive sim only deals - esp those sourced via USwitch et al - rocket in price after the minimum term and often lose large elements of their data entitlements so I don’t think this will be the case at all.

On the other hand maybe they are resisting day to day price increases by removing a non essential

It's odd that Three are doing this considering that they had free roaming long before the EU directive came in.

Indeed - this is literally the only reason I’m with them.

Feel like I will move just to hit them where it hurts as this is a big let down.
(Assuming that they will also nobble it for existing customers come renewal time etc)
Yep, my contact with Three ends in October, doubt I'll stay with them now they have revoked roaming unless they have a very decent deal on the Pixel 6.

Well, Three have lied again.

Spoke to them a while back and was assured my rolling monthly would retain lifetime roaming as long as it was left alone once my contract had expired.

Got an email today telling my contract was expiring AND my plan being discontinued.

Stay as is and pay double AND lose roaming.
Move to new contract, pay same AND lose roaming.

No way to retain roaming.

Farewell Three next month.

Mad really . Me and Mrs at least 8 years with Three. st coverage, even have a signal booster to make it work at home. Zero reason to use Three now.

The cheating s at Three did exactly the same to me a little while ago.

Speaking to their overseas call centre was an exercise in complete futility, other than to confirm how st Three’s service is and how little they think of their customers.

If O2/Virgin maintain this stance they’re going to gain A LOT of customers at their competitors expense.

Indeed. It's an interesting approach. One assume they have researched that roaming isnt key to their customer base.

Regarding the call centre..? My oh my... I had a billing error last year and it took many many arduous painful calls to get it sorted.

There is a lot to be said for keeping hold of old contracts if you've got something good.

I have an old sim only contract and there is still nothing better to replace it.

£20/m for unlimited mins, unlimited texts, 20GB data, full BT Sport access (worth £10), and full use of my data in the EU.

Also, because it's and old contract, instead of an annual price increase of RPI +3% (!!!), I just get charged CPI from memory, which doesn't sound like much of a difference, but when RPI is 6%, it's a difference of about £1 or so a month.
