I'm looking to buy a couple of laptops the budget is upto around £1400 per device. I have been using Macs for a number of year now so i'm out of touch with what's good in the world of Windows machines. I would like something that's a nice experience which to me means good battery life a nice screen and usable trackpad. Something along the lines of the 13" MBP but not a Mac. I have been for a look on the Dell and HP web sites and I'm underwhelmed with what I have seen.

Any recommendations for models or other manufacturas I should be looking greatly received.

Dell XPS 13; I bought a few for my workplace and we're very happy with them.

Dell XPS 13 is about the best 13" Windows laptop there is. I have one from a few years ago and it is great.

HP Elitebook 830 g8 is nice if you don’t fancy the Dell XPS for some reason. Kinda assuming buying 2 with a decent budget means you are planning to use these in a work environment so avoid all the consumer oriented trash. Windows devices aimed at business are in the different league build quality wise.

I bought a new Dell XPS15 9570 for my wife a couple of years ago and just the other week I bought the identical model second hand like new for £795. I'm super happy with how it performs. Changed the thermal paste and replaced the original NVME with a Samsund 980 and off we go. It has a 4k IPS screen and a good i7 cpu and a 1050ti gpu which is good enough unless you are pushing some gaming.

I paid £1200 (Black Friday down from £1,600) for an IBM Thinkpad P15s from laptops direct. I7, 48GB ram (paid £50 to upgrade it from 16) 500gb hd, 15.4 inch.
It’s a fantastic laptop.

You get a lot more for your money with other makes. I got rid of the one I had and bought a Dell XPS 15" with touch screen etc, way better than the Mac and half the price.

I’ve got an XPS15, love it, fast, good battery and sexy for a piece of electronics.

Another vote for XPS 13 or 15 depending on the screen size you prefer.

Just bought my student daughter a Dell XPS 13 9310 touchscreen to replace a five year old XPS 13 9350 which brought a good resale price on eBay. Very good machines if you need to work with Windows

Personally I’ll take a MacBook any day, especially with the M1 CPU
