I've never bought that colour scheme noctua fans, the black ones are fine and just as available as the baby poop ones.

Most likely later in Q3 though, along with the 4060 Ti

Yeah - looks like the 4070 gets most of its performance boost over the 3070 with higher clock rates and faster memory, not actually offering more CUDA cores. That's a bit disappointing.

On the plus side, that performance boost should take it to approx 3080 levels. It also looks to be having 12GB vs 8GB of memory on the old 3070, which is welcome. Also welcome, power consumption of only 250W which is slightly more than the 3070 but a lot less than the 3080.

The price will be key. If the RRP for the 4070 comes in around the level of the old 3080 , then not really too impressive. If it's priced closer to the 3070 RRP then it looks a lot more compelling. My guess is that it'll be officially about the same as the 3080 (£649) was which is going really annoy people.

£500 for 3080 bang and an undervolt to ~ 200W would be nice.

And an easily de-shrouded card so I can run decent (chromax) Noctua fans hehe.

All those green ended boxes are 4070 Ti GPUs, look at them all flying off the shelves, they are going so fast they don't even have time to put them into locked cabinets.....

There's over £110,000 worth of stock there.

Or £60,000 of stock if priced in line with previous generations.

Or £40,000 at sale prices in a deep recession.

Unfortunately NVidia don't seem to be doing an FE of the 4070Ti which means only bulky third party cards available and no guarantee they will be at RRP.

In fact, all the current ones are BULKIER than the official 4090FE, which is crazy.

Maybe we will see an FE coming out later, at RRP and in a sensible form factor.

Nvidia's official MSRP is what the cheapest 4070 Ti models are not selling at.

Amd needs to get into the mix with a much cheaper alternative, or nothing will change.

And I suspect that the 4070 will give 3080 performance at the 3080 price too.

I guess they feel that the insane prices during the crypto boom/lockdown are something that average punters are willing and able to pay so they're not going to try to improve the value proposition in the sub-£700 market and are going to concentrate on offering really high performace cards at £1000 and up to really rake in the profits.

I think they might possibly have miscalculated here but time will tell.

The only benefit to getting the 4060Ti will be DLSS 3.0, but the reduction of other elements (128-bit memory bus, fewer CUDA cores) negates that benefit in my opinion.

Hmmmm.

I’m not sure this silliness in the mid market will last.

Just who is gonna pay all that for such performance?

You’d get close enough with a 1080Ti from 2016 for about £250 at their 2019 used prices.

It’s like we’ve lost 5 years to price gouging silliness.

So... assuming my only consideration is performance with a degree of portability and it won't be my money, any reason to order 3080 laptops instead of waiting a couple of weeks for the shiny upcoming 4090 ones?

My quick skim of what data exists suggests it's worth the update?
