I run my PC with a single external radiator with quite long tubing, I can move it around the room to act as a little heater, its great!
I set up with a pair of 480mm external rads, plus the pumps & reservoir in a vertical column, they sit passively with no fans. Not that great at warming the room though. Hope you put dry break connectors on your tubing to make it easier to shift around.

I do genuinely have a big old 'deskside' SGI that when it was powered could really warm the place up.

Nice! I've got an old Indigo Impact R10K I've been trying to decide on a use for...

Yeah, I saw that earlier. What is pretty clear now from all the comparison reviews is that NVidia deliberately gimped the 4070Ti for 4k gaming. It's still pretty OK but the memory bandwidth means that you aren't getting close to the full effect of its GPU power when you up the res to 4k from 1440p.

So, if you want to have the best 4k gaming experience from 4000 series silicon, you better get (at least) the 4080 for the meagre price of one thousand, two hundred pounds .... Sixteen hundred if you want the 4090

Nvidia ... get f-ing real. redface

Absolutely. I'm still running this 1070 and desperate for an upgrade, keep putting a 4070Ti or 4080 into my basket, but never click checkout because the prices are just stupidly unjustifiable.

The problem is, this 1070 is getting older and older, i was willing to skip a couple of generations waiting for the pandemic/mining induced prices to sort themselves out, but looks like they wont. And nVidia know we can't wait forever..... AMD are not much better either, slightly lower prices but none of the new features.

I have downloaded telegram specifically for a 4090 FE alert. I have googled channels for a UK 4090 FE alert but am not sure which one is the best to follow. Or I even if i have the right one’s added right now.

Which has historically been best to follow?

Given they tend to hang around for a few hours, I think you'll be ok and shouldn't have too much difficulty getting one at the next drop. Not like the early 3080 days when they disappeared in a couple of seconds.

I used FE Part Alert last year and managed to grab one at the first opportunity. As mentioned though, they tend to sit around for a day or so now when they drop.

The 4090FE is a cracking card TBH.

It sends alerts for EU sites and all FE cards (ie 4080, 3090ti as well as 4090) but is what I used to grab mine.

As above though they tend to stay in stock for a while so no longer the same rush that they used to be.

Yeah, minutes used to matter when getting the alerts. Their discord was the first to alert with Telegram close behind. Twitter always seemed to lag by a minute or two. I got my 3070FE using their alerts.

The RTX3000 series FE cards would literally go within a minute of an alert going up. Those were the days ..... NOT biggrin

This one now https://telegram-group.org/Telegram.php?id=7639

All the ones I looked at last night had no past activity showing in the app. I added the above using the link. Searching the name in the app didn’t work, because of the flame 🔥 that is in the name of the group I suppose.

Great, thank you. Also thanks to the others that have replied.

I now need to do more research to see if I can justify the card with the i5-12600k that I bought last year. I have a Corsair 1000w power supply, a Z690 motherboard and 64GB of Corsair Dominator DDR4 RAM so I think I should be ok on most fronts for now.

https://pc-builds.com/bottleneck-calculator says your CPU will be a bottleneck even as a rough guide with some degree of error this is a lot.

35.7% of processor bottleneck at 4k
58.9% of processor bottleneck at 1440p
68.3% of processor bottleneck at 1080p

I'm not sure I'd trust that site. It says 5800X3D has a 58.7% bottleneck at 1440p and 7950X is 0% ..

they only cpu i can find that wont bottle neck my 4090 according to this site is a 13900k yet this shows that on a lot of games there is very little difference over my 10900k and on some game a 10% uplift, worth dropping 1500 squid for 10%?

As I swing from swearing blind I'll stick with my 3080 to refreshing the nvida site for 4090 stock every half hour, I keep remind9ng myself I'd need a new cpu and board.
Currently have a 10th gen i7 and simply was considering an 13th gen i7.
But, the more I look I see very little difference with going for the much cheaper 13th gen i5.
Any opinions on this? Would it really make much difference to gaming?

Thank you both.

I currently have a 12gb 3080. The PC was built new by me last Summer as a machine for DCS. However after playing other titles on both PS5 and the PC I have realised how much I appreciate the graphic improvements.

The 4090 is a bit of a whim and an excuse to treat myself again. But if I am looking at a new CPU too…..
