I'd go with a couple of https://www.costco.co.uk/Computers/Laptops-MacBook... for £349.99 each, but I have no love of Currys.
edit - FWIW that's also probably the lowest spec laptop they offer I'd inflict on anyone I wanted to do anything productive for me.
Agreed, I think you will struggle to find anything better than that for the money.edit - FWIW that's also probably the lowest spec laptop they offer I'd inflict on anyone I wanted to do anything productive for me.

I bought one of these the other week for my daughter - I thought it was a reasonable deal for £400. I didn't realise Curry's had a bad reputation these days. My experience buying from them was fine.

Whenever someone asks me for recommendations for a cheap laptop, I always tell them "Don't do it!!". In my opinion, far better to buy a 2-3 year old enterprise grade laptop than a new low end laptop from the likes of Currys. The price will be about the same, but the hardware will usually be infinitely better. Better processor, better screen, more memory, MUCH better build quality. If you buy from one of the remanufacturing companies, you might have a new keyboard, a new battery and they usually last far longer than you could imagine. And they will have a warranty. That might be because I don't play games though, but for doing actual work, a proper laptop that cost upwards of £1500 new is the way to go.
I'm an IT professional and I use a Mac Pro from 2008, a Lenovo T420 from 2012 and a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon from 2022. Apart from not having a touchscreen or windows hello, and the CPU being slower, the T420 (upgraded to 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD) is every bit as capable as the X1 carbon, and in some ways is better, having much better connectivity. OK so it's not amazing for running VMs, but most users don't do that on their laptops.

I would agree, but maybe go a step further; think about a cheap Desktop instead. Then see where that leaves you in terms of what you need to be doing on the move. dont be afraid to buy one that matches all your spec bar ram/ssd and fit your own.
done that with a couple of laptops from currys recently no issue with the transactions actually other than 8gb of ram wasnt quite enough.
couple of cheap 32gb kits and their exactly what we need at a bargain price

If you are going to do that just make sure the memory isn't soldered to the board before you buy. done that with a couple of laptops from currys recently no issue with the transactions actually other than 8gb of ram wasnt quite enough.

I would go for one of these ahead of the Costco one - the i3 is a much weaker chip than the Amd 5500Uhttps://www.currys.co.uk/products/asus-vivobook-m5...
