Fair point actually - I also do pretty much all of my banking on the phone......

I've already paid for the pending screen repair, but next time I drop it maybe I will replace!
Guess it no longer gets support.

I've had my Fold 5 for a few months now and really wouldn't want to go back to a normal phone. I don't use it in 'book' mode a huge amount, but it's damn useful when I do.

My old iPhone 12 Pro Max, now relegated to pure work duties, feels too big and clumsy, though I do miss some aspects of iOS a lot. My laptop sees little use as well.

I'll be watching with great interest how Samsung develop the Fold range further.
I honestly don't understand how anything of that size could replace s laptop unless you can somehow connect it to multiple external monitors?

My laptop seems a good amount of Photoshop use as a hobby, and for work I'll frequently have Teams on one screen with PowerPoint running on another, or a Web page on one, spreadsheet on a second and Word document on a third, for example, cutting and pasting between them. Could a Fold really handle that???
In fairness, my laptop doesn't now get a huge amount of use anyway since work provided me with a MacBook Pro, and I also have a desktop PC for gaming, so my use case is atypical. However, Samsung Dex is pretty good as a laptop substitute when paired with a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. AIUI, it only supports two monitors where it mirrors the phone screen on one, and uses the second independently for Dex, which is a shame but understandable.

I'm tempted to change from my standard s22 (alost 2 years old) to a s23+, partly for the larger screen but mainly for the better battery life. I don't expect much (if any) performance improvement, although people say the chip is better.

Cost to change is £500 with samsung at the moment including trade in of the s22 and cashback etc.

I could wait for the s24+, but presumably that would cost me more. Any ideas what early deals might look like on the s24 compared to the £500 it would cost me to move to the s23+?

I managed to drop my phone yesterday, so damaged the screen. It's a Note 9, so definitely old enough to justify replacement - and I did consider it - but still decided to get it repaired.

I remember that when I bought it a few years ago - part of the reason was because it seemed to be the last model with the status LEDs and memory card, both of which I wanted (although I know you can just buy a 1TB phone and not worry so much about memory).
Plus - there wasn't anything on new phones that tempted me to replace it - I rarely use the camera, and mine is adequate for the rare times I do. It does everything else I want - and although a new screen is expensive, the extra cost and hassle of switching to a new phone just didn't seem worth it.

They need a "must have" feature to kick start phone sales again I think.
Yeah - I went from S10e which was showing its age (battery was getting knackered and the ports were getting flaky) to an S23 on a Black Friday deal and although I like the phone, it isn't really that much of a huge upgrade over the S10e when you consider 4 years have passed.

I definitely miss the MicroSD support which meant I had to go for the 256gig version for even more £££s than the base model. Proper headphone jack would be nice too though I now have plenty of BT phones and buds. And it's just that tiny bit bigger and less one-handable than the S10e which was near perfect IMO.

That said, still one of the best current smartphones and I'm happy with the price I paid. I would not buy at the full price though .. but there may be deals when the S24 comes out. Of course, many people get them on mobile contracts so I guess headline price may be a moot point for them.

ID mobile are currently offering £30 a month for 24 months with unlimited everything on a S23+
I think there's an £80 or so upfront fee. They use the 3 network.
You also get £100 cashback and earbuds and 12 months disney + for free.

You then have your old one to sell separately too.

S24 to have seven years of updates.

I wonder if they will extend the same courtesy to the S23 series?

Thanks, assume you mean s23+, but looks like they are out of stock. I'd also prefer to stay with o2

I assume all the s23 ultras listed on Facebook at £300 are scams or fakes from China??

Anyway to tell a fake?

There's a pre order deal on at the moment direct through Samsung. Double the memory for free plus decent trade in and a free Galaxy 6 smart watch along with various other add ons like free Disney+. Theres also 0% finance deal to pay it up over 2 years.

I wasnt really in the market for a new phone, but the battery life in my 5 year old S10 isnt the best and they offered me 130 quid as a trade in. That and an emergency services discount twisted my arm.

Just got the S23U, any cases that are good and sit nicely between not being too bulky but good drop protection for kids throwing it?

Came from the Spigen Tough Armor on the S22U, its unbreakable but quite chunky....

Using a Snakehive case here. But I'm old so like the wallet style case. Not for everyone though!

Otterbox defender here after trying 2 others. Little that's protective without being huge or compromising fingerprint
