I know this is very much personal opinion and also very area dependent, but hope this helps.

I have been with all the networks over the years and travel throughout the UK on business.

I’d say 3 are the worst for coverage and signal strength. Plenty of places where there was limited signal for both calls and data. Plenty of hotels where it can’t be used for phone or data streaming indoors when the other networks are fine. Noticeably worse.

I’ve found customer service at all fairly similar, not had any major issues, so on a purely coverage/signal basis I’d say EE best, then O2, Vodafone 3.

They are cheaper for a reason.

I switched from BT (EE network) to SMARTY a few days ago. SMARTY site said the coverage for my area was good.

I have consistently had about 1-2 bars of signal on my phone and it's hammering my battery. When using Google Maps the phone has struggled to find my location and get directions. I spoke with SMARTY a few days ago and was told there's 'congestion' in my area and they're working on the mast, it should be better in a few days.

Sounds like absolute rubbish (& terrible luck!) as a new customer. I'm due to get a new phone soon to see if there's any difference. If not, i'll be leaving and can't help but feel it was a mistake leaving BT.

I've been with Three for what must be 20 years now and never had any problems. I've never had a reason to change. A couple of months ago I changed to a SIM only deal (first time I've ever done that), and whilst I could have gotten it a couple of quid cheaper a month, it's not going to make a difference to my life.

5G can be bonkers fast, if that is your want:
