I am after a home laser printer that is preferably quite compact. Only needs to print and happy with black&white (the wife may disagree though)...

Other requirements are:
1. No subscriptions for toner / ink etc.
2. Ideally no "cloud connected" anti-features.

Only other thing is nothing by HP - I hate them on a cellular level.

Second the Brother recommendation. Compact but very good, the duplex printing makes it so easy to use too compared to an Oki colour laser that went to printer heaven a few years ago.

3rd for Brother. I have the older version of this, bought about 5 years ago. Just coming to the end of it's first toner cartridge which will cost about £25 to replace. Each page is great. No ink splodges, no dried up cartridges. No idea why anyone would use inkjet. Laser is just so much simpler.

4th for Brother.

I have a cheaper model again (mono) and paid £60 from Argos for it at the very start of Covid (bought for home schooling purposes).

Toner is super cheap (c.£12 and lasts a lot of pages)

Currently £85-ish on Argos

HP P1102W. biggrin

Wireless. Old skool so uses any old toner from those 3rd party ink places. Reliable. It's like the Skoda Octavia of printers. biggrin

5th for Brother …

Something like the Brother HL-L2350DW

Its excellent, just works and 3rd party toner available although the branded ones aren’t that expensive, esp if you don’t print much.

Brother all the way.

Mono compatible toners are cheap as chips too ... just check the exact model's toner prices before buying.

I'm another Brother Lover smile

It just works, even when I leave it to not print for months on end. Generic toner cartridges available. I also got the HL-L2350DW mentioned a few times above. Believe that model has now been replaced with the HL-L2400DW now, available online for about £100.

Brother.

Mine does duplex and colour, wasn't super expensive. Has ethernet. I may never need another printer (touch wood).

I've also got the HL-L2350DW, had it for years now without issue. Prints from phones, laptops, etc. without hassle.

Yeah, cant fault that either, and to be fair that makes the ebay ones look over priced. But dont forget even the new Brother only comes with half a cartridge and that a full one is a second £100!

Brother have been making solid buy inexpensive mono laser printers for as long as I've been on this planet and they are very good at it.

Only if you buy from the wrong place wink

Genuine XL £64, "normal" one £36

Compatibles cheaper still, but at those prices for originals I'd probably stick with them

Lol I was going to come on here and say Brother but twenty others beat me to it!

Just to say I recommend them to small businesses and have next to no issues reported.
