Disposing of old PC's
Discussion
Prop against wheelie bin in street.
Watch from safe distance.
I've got rid of a broken VCR and a '386 PC like this.
Seriously though, I've also used these people;

My local tip won't take them anymore, some EU ruling apparently.
Really? Bugger. I've got a 22" CRT monitor that's knackered (smoke, burning, not good) that I was going to take to the tip. It's mightily heavy and awkward to carry ... Hmm
Yup, got turned away at the door!
Company in my previous post will deal with it in London, just awaiting cost details

The last monitor of mine that died, I dropped it in the wheelie bin.
(The last time I had several to get rid of, I took them to the tip where they had a special section for monitors and TVs.)

There is no chance that this one will fit in the wheelie bin ... let alone moving the bin afterwards
Might be different outside London, possibly, so I'll have a wander down to the tip at the w/e and see. Hadn't even considered they wouldn't take it; what do we pay the council for?

Yep, difficult to get rid of it. We even had a charity asking for a donation to come and pick up some kit... then got complaints that the machines weren't high enough spec.
I've had the same experience. I tried to give away a load of machines from a big upgrade project I was on a few years ago, but the attitude of the potential recipients sucked. What with that and the nonsense from the Health & Safety people ["If someone hurts themselves, it's your fault"] and the accountants ["There's a tax liability"] I ended up skipping the whole lot.

These chaps are charging me 12 whole English pounds to collect 2 CRTs and 3 desktops - only in Central and South London mind
I'm happy with that

If anyone has a laptop they're wanting to throw away, I can give it a good home.
I thought you already had a scrap laptop?
It's not scrap! Just - recuperating.
I want to replace it - I hate unreliable equipment. I've just sent Ted a Wanted ad to put in his classifieds.
I had a clear out at my office a couple of months ago, emptied the attic etc and had a skip outside. I found an old, broken 486 Computer with no HDD, CD drive or power supply so threw it in there, someone nicked it during the night yet I also put a non-working but immaculate looking 17" monitor in there and no one took that.

You might want to look at;

(Even though the latter doesn't render properly in Firefox, something which normally causes me never to return to a site.)
