cant switch on a laptop !!!

I just bought a laptop 2nd hand from a shop,seen it working ok in the shop,got home,switched it on with the power supply,and theres an orange light on,like its charging or on standby,when I hit the on button it doesnt start..

please help !!

Try starting it with the battery out, but power plugged in.

Try pressing down the power button for 11 seconds.

This will do on some machines a hard re-boot (depending on what brand it is).

Other option is to physically remove the battery, leave it disconnected for about 30 seconds, then reconnect and try to start up.

Orange light normally implies battery is charging.

Its a packard bell,when the battery is out I dont get any power to it through the mains...

The other option is to buy a docking station so you can power the computer through this route (assuming your laptop has such a port)

The primary option is to take it back and get your money back. Save up and buy a new computer that comes with a warranty, that you know the history of. If it's important enough to you that you have to have one then make sure you get one that you can trust to work for more than 10 minutes.
