I'm ok at powerpoint but not with the clever stuff...is there any way of achieving this:

Easy bit:
slide 1 is a map of Europe. Each country is a hyperlink to a data slide, on the slide sits a return icon.. taking presenter back to map. Sorted so far.

Head scratching bit:
After a country has been viewed, and blob is shown on the main map. The presentation wont be a fixed path through country by country (wouldnt be scratching head is it was) but the presenter could dip into a different selection of countries each time

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

I don't quite understand what your problem is.

Once you click on one of the countries, you are then taken to a slide for that country. Then you click on the return link, and it takes you back to the map. You can then click on a new country.

If you want to remove the country names on the map that have been clicked on, you could use the Format/Slide Colour Scheme to change the "Hyperlink" and the "Followed hyperlink" colours, to that the followed hyperlink colour is the same as the map colour (effectively making it disappear). This can be done for all hyperlinks in the document or on a hyperlink by hyperlink basis. Remember that the return hyperlinks probably should not change colour, and to reset the hyperlinks that have been visited you can re-save the document.

Hope I have understood...
Andy.

cheers for youe input.. however whatthey want isnt a text based visual clue, they want a graphic. So 1st time you visit the map of Europe, its just a map with no 'map pins' stuck in it. Visit france, come back, hey presto France has now got a pin in it. Had a wee google sesh to see if this was feasible but didnt return anything promising

It is not a problem to have text over the map, and just use a single character (such as a tick perhaps) which appears after you click on it. I can get that to work ok. (Mail me if you want the ppt)

Graphics as such do not obey the hyperlink change in colour. I think you could in theory write a macro to change the colour (or move the graphic in front of the map), but my macro writing skills are rusty.

How about using a circle from one of the unusal fonts - webdings or the like are sure to have one - then you can adopt the colour change method suggested above. As it isn't a graphic, it will change colour as a result of a hyperlink.

I wonder if this would this work....? I have't got powerpoint on this laptop so can't check for you.

Set up a hyperlink to the second slide associated with the word and location "France". Somewhere else on the map of France have a webdings circle or tick already placed there in the same colour as the map section, so it won't be visible to presenter or audience at this stage. When the presenter clicks on the word "France" on your map the hyperlink will provide the second slide. When this second slide is no longer required the hyperlink to return to the map should reference the webdings character on the original map, as a result of clicking the link it will change the colour of the webdings circle or tick.

If you understand any of that, I'll be amazed.

The increasingly tall hurdle is now they want up to 6 different coloured dots per country. Bah.

Here, have my paddle, it looks like you're in the Creek.

A final thought - use the hyperlink return method I suggested above. Once the presenter returns to the map they have to click on "France - Locations" and this will trigger a custom animation - so a number of locations can appear and the word locations can disappear.

If you wanted me to have a play around with the actual presentation, I am more than happy to try and help - I've got a quiet day!

I haven't tried this....

Write a macro to build the Europe map each time it's visited, then you can just use a switch for the condition visited/not visited

The return hyperlink goes to the build macro not just a map, you could put piccy in each country then too rather than just a character

Is this not possible by using the Action buttons on the drawing toolbar auto options?
I have a few resources for PPT, so feel free to mail me.
