Controlling NTL box with JVC DVD/HDD

Sorry for all the TLMs in the title

Bought a fine JVC DR-MH50S from Derestrictor's store (Digital Direct) just before Xmas - fantastic bit of kit that comes with a gizmo for controlling satellite receivers.

But it doesn't come with functionality to control NTL cable decoders (we have a modern Samsung one). Any ideas why not or if it's possible?
