Hi All,

I'm currently in the process of creating a website for a friend. She wants to put MP3's (and possibly video)on the site so people can listen to her stuff.

However she wants to stop people downloading it.

Whats the best way of going about this?

Regards,

Phill

Stream it

Though you can record a stream

If people want it, they'll get it

I assume that you own the copyright for the MP3's/Video that you are planning to make available?

Not personally but my friend does as it is all her own work.

Can any one help?

I need to set up a page similar to myspace where my friend can upload her music to.

She doesn't want people to be able to download her music so I think I need an embedded player. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Phill

The problem with embedded players is that it makes the site ultra complicated. If the idea of the site is to showcase some talent then consider having the mp3 file short to showcase the best stuff and make people want more.

Yep, first and foremost I think you need a link to a short mp3 that people can click on and open. Embedded players aren't for everyone.

Optionally include an embedded player too - i posted to a link to an open source one in your other thread as it's very good, I've used it here

http://musicplayer.sourceforge.net/

Dobbo many thanks for your help. I've used the embedded player you sent me which is great (apart from the download option).

I'm going to suggest that my Client shortens her MP3's down to 30second previews.

Why not play the samples at 32 or 64k, good enough to hear what it is, but not high enough quality for cd/ipod ripping?

Another good idea. I'll suggest both options to my Client.

Again, that's what I've done. The samples on the site above are short, and low quality. Avoids people nicking it, but lets them hear what they want.

The cool thing about the xspf player is it can be slimline or full size, so you can sneak it down in a corner if need be.
