This (I think it is the same thing) has happened to me. It usually fixes itself if I start explorer again or I just restart the computer. Not sure what the cause is, it usally happens roughly once per month,

Are you using MS Internet Explorer? Or Firefox, or Opera or....

If its Explorer, try going to the view menu, selecting toolbars and checking that the "address bar" function is ticked. That could well be it...

In the search panel (that bit on the left, sorta runs up and down the length of the page, you know....) do you get a button that says custom?

OK, do you have a search button across the top. What happens if you have it and you press it?

Scary in here, innit

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced...

About two thirds of the way down there is a "search from the address bar" bit, I think that's what you're looking for. Sounds like you want "just display the results in the main window".

Play with the four choices and see which one suits you best.

Firefox is brilliant... Give it a few days and you won't go back to IE. It'll work for your missus too, and it should give her her own set of preferences.

As for IE, in the search panel on the left, select custom and then "use search assistant" I think that should do it... It's kinda tricky to see what you can't see if you see what I mean...

Off to find some troll food now

I don't think that's an issue 'cos mine's the same.I remember having a similar probelm to this when I installed my adsl router.I had to change the MTU setting in there and then everything worked OK.Do you have a router?Could it have lost it's setings?

Does it make any difference if you type http://www.oldladies-yuck.com rather than just www.oldladies-yuck.com ?

It was moved here because this is the forum for computer based problems since you will find the expertise to help you here not in P&P (not everyone looks at P&P and this topinc would soon have disappeared off the front page) If you need computer help post in here.

I know, but it's a bit like a red rag to a bull, someone posts a "please don't move it" bit on a thread so of course it's going to get moved at the first opportunity
