morning all

on my laptop using outlook, whenever i delete an email it just puts a line through it but it stays in the inbox (tried right click delete, ctrl delete & all sorts) had laptop for about 3 months and therefore have thousands of emails in my inbox all with lines on them to show deleted - any ideas how i can actually remove them for good?

(when got laptop, had problems with my inbox, so someone created another inbox in the same outlook calling it 'imap1and1' if this makes any difference?

many thanks

This makes a significant difference.

IMAP syncs with the server rather than POP3 which pulls everything from the server. You need to purge deleted items, but I'm not sure where that is in Outlook, which version of outlook are you using? IN OE it's in Tools => options => maintainence, Purge deleted items when leaving IMAP IIRC.

In proper outlook it's something edit => purge deleted.

Mattley has it - IMAP only marks as deleted rather than deletes.

In Outlook you can customise your toolbar, if you do this, you can drag a "purge" button onto the toolbar, then just whack that whenever you need to.
