You'll have to excuse my ignorance on this kind of thing but...

I am building a headphone amp from plans I have found in the internet. I have bought some op-amps in an 8 pin chip and some sockets in to which to plug them. The problem I have found is that the distance between the pins of the socket is 3mm and the distance between the holes in the stripboard is a little under 4mm. Does stripboard come in different grades so that I can buy some with smaller distances between the holes or do I need some kind of converter or is there some equally obvious solution to this which eludes me? I have tried soldering wires to the legs of the socket to raise them and position the legs correctly but the soldered joints are unreliable and I've tried bending the legs but they snap.

Help.

Thanks,

Mark

The only stripboard or stripboard-like prototyping boards I've ever seen have all had their holes arranged on the standard 0.1" (2.54mm) grid, so if yours really does have its holes arranged on a near-4mm grid it'd be somewhat unusual. Where did you get it from?

Edited to add: Just done a bit of searching, and it turns out stripboard IS also made with an 0.15" grid, though it doesn't appear to be widely available. Sounds like you've picked up a bit of this rather than the more common 0.1" grid type, which is what you really need.

Thanks very much for the information. I got the stripboard from RS where I got the rest of the components from. I must admit I assumed that there was one size and therefore simply bought the first one listed in the search results. I'll pop down to maplins tomorrow and pick up some of the smaller stuff.

Thanks,

Mark
