Have a new computer, with iTunes chirping away merrily. I have a dread however, that when I plug my ipod in all my music will be erased as it was registered to my old computer.

Am I being a total luddite here, it's just I'm sure I heard of this happening in the past.

Just to be clear, I don't want to transfer music from my ipod to my new computer, I just want to use my new computer to put music on the ipod, without itunes deleting the thing.

Can you network the PCs and copy your music collection over?

To be on the safe side, you can download Yamipod and copy the contents of your ipod to your new PC.

No, they're works computers. Went away for a few days and the old one went in the skip.

I'd rather not gunk up my work computer with 50gb of music.

Thanks tho'

iTunes only gives you the option to synchronise your ipod with a particular computer IIRC.

Yamipod would allow you to copy files without the need for itunes - and it is free.

There is a little application that you can download that will allow you to transfer music from an iPod to a new PC.

I can't remember what it was called as I did it for a friend a few years ago.

no need for any software, windows is all you need. Firstly, set the ipod to enable disc use. This will let you use it as a storage device, and will disable automatic syncing.

Plug ipod into new pc, and copy all of the files on it to your hdd using windows explorer. Add the folder ot your itunes library, which will copy them to a new directory. once done, delete the copy you made.

Does this also includes playlists?

Thanks for the help, just to recap :

I DONT need to get songs off my ipod onto the new computer.

I need to use my new computer and new itunes to download podcasts and a ruck of free songs on itunes I have onto my old ipod.

The ipod is still registered to the old computer which is in a landfill site somewhere.

I had a feeling that if I plug into the new computer, apples copyright would throw a wobbly and have a go at deleting the contents of the ipod and replace it with the few tunes I have sitting here in my new itunes.

Nah, you won't lose anything. You can authorise up to 5 or 6 computers at a time to play your purchases. Unfortunately I think that an ipod can only be synched with one PC however. Try the discussion boards at www.apple.com They can be very helpful
