IIRC you are with Netgear (or were)

I have recommended and used the netgear routers for a couple of years now because thier ease of set up and not needing internet access initially.

I noticed on the last one we used that it wanted to link out to the web via a modem to get its set up ques, but in the majority of systems we install there is not initial internet access.

Is there a way of foolling it and getting into the admin section as you used to do with the earlier DG series?

yep - i think I know what you mean...it runs a wizard and hijacks all traffic and diverts you to a set up page?

you can bypass it - just goto 192.168.0.1/basicsetting.htm and log in normally

..it is documented in the install guide/manual I think wink

Hope you dodn't mind me hijacking your thread, Vex, but I've got a problem with my Netgear RP614 router that maybe Bogie can help me with. I was browsing the internet last night when suddenly I couldn't access pistonheads, or any of the related sites(pistonheads.tv, eurohoon.co.uk), but could still access other sites. I assumed that the site had gone down, but having accessed it at work today, and upon getting home and finding I still couldn't access it, I tried taking my router out of the system, after which I can access pistonheads again! When I put the router back, again I can't access ph, but other sites are fine. I have tried reseting the router, but still have the same problem. Any ideas?

if nothings changed on the router then its doubtful its that...unless you change the config on it to block sites it has no intelligence to do it on its own...id reset it back to factory defaults (push small button in the rear and hold down for 10 secs whilst powered on) then reconfigure if required

I take it you are on Virgin cable if you are using that router?

is it running the latest firmware?

what version of RP614 is it?

Yep, on Vigin cable. Don't know what firmware it's running, so that could quite likely do with an update. The router is an RP614v3.

http://kbserver.netgear.com/release_notes/D102571....

the most recent for that box is back from Dec 2004..so you are probably running it already - worth checking though...do a factory reset after upgrading.

I just cant think of a reason why some websites would be blocked and not others unless its been deliberately done in the router.

Looks like it's not just me having problems, thought I would have a look over in website feedback, and other people are having the same problem, so I guess it's not a fault with the router. Thanks for the help.smile
