having just got a macbook how do you make safari go full screen is very annoying?

Try the "Saft" extension » http://haoli.dnsalias.com/Saft/index.html

I don't believe there is a native function to do this...

I've often wondered about this,
Its slightly miffing the selection of hardware that don't talk mac, not to mention the full screen issue

I'm not a fan of Safari, I much prefer Firefox.

To get safari full screen you just drag the arrow, bottom right corner, to the size you want, it should remember this next time you go in.
