Is this the place to ask about mobile phones?
Discussion
I need to replace my old Nokia 8850 phone and suppose I will get one of these modern new-fangled e-mail, windows, camera, MP3 player... mobile phones. But doing my research on the interweb I'm even more confused. So can I ask a daft question please? In practice what's the difference between 2.5G and 3G? Rich...
p.s. what about the Treo 750, QTEK9100 or an HTC P3300???

The difference between 2.5G & 3G is for mobile data speed, rather than anything to do with voice calls...
How often do you use you phone as a modem (link your laptop to the 'net via your mobile), use video calling, email or browse the net on your phone?
If you do any of these regularl - you will be faster on 3G than 2.5G, and either will be much fster than using your 8850. Bear in mind that mobile data is charged for the data transferred (in Mb) rather than the time connected. If you decide you may use some data, such as surfing the mobile web, then check your data costs CAREFULLY BEFORE connecting! It's usually cheaper to prepay for a small bundle for a couple of ££ per month, than having a shock when the bill arrivers
If you just use your phone for calls & texting then you won't really notice any difference in speeds.
I can go into more techno nerd speak if you want, but that should be OK to start with...

Nice packaging for the Kaiser, eh !
Seems pretty fast so far. WM6 is stable. I am not so sure I like the way the slidey bit feels loose when you pick it up, sure will get used to it, but it feels odd. Screen is very good.
Agree about 25.G vs 3/3.5. It makes browsing so much better, but for downloading emails ... not so sure.
