Hi all

I've just put the new Norton on my laptop and it has slowed it down somewhat. Especially on start up as it wants to do a full system scan everytime.

Is there a way to only do a scan when I want it to?

Remove it. It's shit. I had it on my last PC. Then got Zonealarm, and it found a load of stuff that Norton said was OK rolleyes. It also ran a load faster once Norton was taken off. I've also got SpyBot (Not Spywarebot). This is free, just google it to download. Zonealarms do a free download, but you have to pay (not a lot and cheaper than Norton) to get all the functionality.

As Fatboy says, strip the damn thing off and try something else. There are plenty of other programs out there (and not McAfee either) that will do the job better with less system overheads. Not worth hassling around with Norton.

That said, Norton isnt bad, its just not good. It does the AV bit pretty well but the rest of the stuff they provide is typically not needed or far to complex to be of any use. Personally, I make use of AVG for my home PC's and its free for home use. Anything beyond that is down to what I want, but then again I run a pretty tight ship as they say.

Yes there is a setting in there to turn off scan on start up. Or there was 3-4 years ago when I stopped using it because it was overpriced. Now using AVG and Zonealarm.
