If you get TomTom Navigator 6 it comes pre-installed on a memory card, you just put it in and it'll do the rest.

Its probably a fair bit easier on the TyTnII, with the on-board GPS. I wonder if the GPS is as lousy/slow as it is on the Ameo though?

Put TomTom on my touch dual, works very nicely. Although the GPS setup was an absolute biatch. I haven't had to do any messing about with com ports since the old DOS days. Setup the hardware com port, then the software com port ...

Hope that some of the guys on the XDA developers manage to figure out a way of getting the GPS and WiFi working on the touch dual.

from what I remember from a colleague, it is a bit tricky, but there is plenty of support on other forums.

If I can find out from him, I will post a link on here.

I'm running Wayfinder on mine - works fine, dead easy to set up. The only small criticism is that it can't detect all postcodes/locations yet. But other than that, no criticisms - very handy piece of kit. smile

The GPS was slow to connect the first 3 or 4 times I used it, but it's very quick to lock on now.

I have a TyTN II (the T-Mobile MDA Vario III variant) and have successfully installed TomTom Navigator 6. I did have a problem with it not finding the internal GPS device initially but a solution on a forum. I can't find the link now, but I think you have to go to 'Preferences', 'GPS Status', 'Configure' and select 'Other NMEA GPS receiver' with a GPS Baud Rate of 4800.

I have been using it for weeks now without a problem (and it works with my external GPS antennae too) so it can definitely be done and works beautifully once configured. smile

And for those of you with TytnII's and haven't turned on the GPS option for Geotagging photo's (GPS Photos) get hold of an Advanced Configuration tool and use it to toggle the option on.

Hi,

If you have got it with a vodafone contract then they provide it on a cd in the box. If that is the case it is clearly written on the CD but not so easy to install or find on the disc. I this is the case let me know and I will talk you through it. The vodafone version only comes with one map but you can get a UK map for around £30 and a european for around £40 (including the UK).

You should also be able to get help from the forum over at 4winmobile.com

I joined them last week and got a number of useful tips and tweeks for my TyTn II.

If you have the non network locked Tytn II, then TomTom comes in the box. Load it up and away you go. It gives you one free map. You then need to hookup to the TomTom Home application on a PC to download a new map.

This version didn't need the fiddling wit the GPS settings as "Internal GPS" was already there.

Tomtom itself is great on the device. The GPS isn't that great, can sometimes be slow to fix compared to an external GPS - but I guess that will have greater sky visibilty.

Using downloadable GPS setting application makes things a lot quicker. QuickGPS came with the device.
