Folks

Have an old Dell Precision 530 i'm looking to get rid of - ideally to charity or other needy cause.

Its a big old beast (c2002), a Pentium3 1800Mhz, 60GB h/d, i think 512Mb ram (poss 1GB), comes with 18" flat panel, comes with k/b, mouse etc

Just wiped the h/d (with h/d wiping s/w) and reinstalled a kosher copy of XP SP2

Based in SE London (SE6), would appreciate local pick-up (evening or w/e collection only)

If anyone knows of anyone needing one, pls get in touch

cheers

That's a pity I've got Two to move myself (moved over to Apple)
And was wondering to ring these people myself.

There a bit of a problem to know what to do with.

Think I'll try the local free ads next

If no one else wants it I can pick it up tomorrow PM. I was asked for a 'learning pc' on Friday for one of my clients' father smile

18" flat panel sounds good! wink

With the prices of new PCs as low as they are, there is hardly anything left it seems in the 2nd hand PC market. A few years back when I helped friends out with PCs I generally took their old bits as a form of payment, then I could salvage bits and sell a decent unit for £90/100 or so!

Isn't there a forum called Freecycle that will allow you to post your PC or other bits and then someone will collect it for a school, charity etc?

AFAIK Freecycle is mainly for other individuals.

freecycle is a yahoogroups which is grouped by locality.. you can offer items for people to indicate their willingness to pick them up.. There are no costs involved. There are a few cases where people indicate their interest for items and then don't turn up, it's worth lining up a few and getting a phone/mobile number, usually once someone gives you that it shows they are really interested and not just timewasters or going to have second thoughts and not let you know about it!
