I have googled this and found that some telcos are asking for a 12 month subscription - why?

I have google maps on my Pearl but want proper satnav for turn by turn directions - can this be done?

Tomtom should be available for your device, but that requires payment.

That being that, update google maps mobile. I think it now does turn by tun.

What model of the Pearl is it? (take the back off and look for 8100, 8110, 8120, 8130)

The 8100 doesn't have GPS, I believe the others do.

BB Maps does turn by turn and should be installed by default. As already said Google Maps now supports this too - not really worth paying for TomTom.

BB 8100 doesn't have a GPS - but you can download and use Google Maps (maps.google.co.uk) it will triangulate your position from the mobile signal - works quite well for me, but is only accurate within 1700m.

if you want real nav with realtime directions you're prob going to need to get a bluetooth GPS to do that - google maps seems to have an option for BT Nav.

just watch out as it downloads maps over t'internet; so may cost you wedge on your data tarrif if you don't have a good data bundle.

I use google maps quite a lot on my 8100 and it works really well.

8120 doesn't come with GPS so no. You could perhaps purchase a bluetooth GPS reciever and link to it via your Blackberry. Is the BB yours or business, if it's business you'd probably have to get your IT team to allow connection to it as this is one of things they can restrict. If it's yours it should all work, if that was the route you wanted to take.

It's my personal Blackberry.

Based on that and Tom Tom's being available for £99 ish I may just pick something up from Halfrauds or similar.

I "thought" (wrongly) that I could have cheap sat nav on my BB for the price of a download.

Thanks to all for your replies..

Oh and is it a case of you get what you pay for with Sat Nav or will a £99 Tom Tom / Garmin do the job? (UK only for the other half to use in her new job driving to see patients in Oxford and the odd weekend away for us in the country to find secluded hotel / camp site not easily found from GB Route map).
