Hi all.

A brief conundrum. Over the weekend the o/p lead dell inspiron laptop power adaptor finally broke and shorted creating a few sparks. I didnt really think much of it as i jsut thought i could re solder the connection in the morning.

However now either with the old power pack or a brand new one my laptop refuses to charge its battery. It will not run on battery power as i assume its now flat and as soon as the power lead is removed the laptop dies.

Do you guys have any ideas on if the short caused damage to the battery or internal circuit to the laptop? Any ideas where i should start fault finding?

Thanks

If your Dell still has the Diagnostic partition at boot you press fn (key) + f6 or f8 I forget which. This boots the diagnostic utility and may be able to tell you.
