Palm Pre ? Coming in the Summer to the UK. And in a few weeks to the USA.

I know nobody else cares. But I do.

Supposedly coming to O2. But I will be gassing myself in my car if that happens. So please Vodafone, or TMob, save a life smile

Just picked up a Nokia E71 to replace my knackered Vario 3 (Tytn II).

Very impressed so far!

I care Noger old chap, before the iPhone I was a Treo user (even as far as writing a version of Jet Set Willy for it, in C, which is horrible but got the job done) smile

However, from my experience of Palm and their 'new releases' - take their planned live date with a tonne of salt. These guys seem to run from the 'all IT projects invariably overspend and deliver late' school of project 'management'.

To be frank, I'd be impressed to see the Pre in 2009. Perhaps I'm old and cynical, but have been burned every time by Palm.. frown

Oh it does exist. And really really will be out on the 6th June.

Boy Genius has an initial report.

It does look a bit plasticy. And no small keyboard will be great.

The good bits for me are support for multiple MS Exchange accounts, iTunes integration and the proper multitasking with a nice way of doing it. Sadly no BT tethering frown

Oh dear, that looks *awfully* cheap, the materials look terrible. And that's a BIG DEAL to me these days. The keyboard on the Treo 600/650/680 units was slightly curved in a 'smile' shape, and even though it was small, it was plenty usable. I could always knock out emails faster on the Treo keyboard than I've ever been able to do with the iPhone.

As to BT tethering - the Pre runs Linux underneath, right? I'll give it half a day in the wild before you can get root on the thing and just use standard unix tools to connect the BT network stack to a Linux interface. The only way Palm could stop this is by not including the network dialup mode in their BT stack, but if it's running Linux, then the standard BT stack could easily be recompiled for the target hardware and patched in.
